How to Use Google Street View

How To Get Google Street View in Google Maps. I show you how to use it on your iPhone, iPad and laptop. Take a walk down any street in the world from the comfort of your own home with these free apps. This is awesome stuff!

The Amazing Uses of Google Street View

Take a virtual walk around any street or city in the world. This has now been made in to an even better experience with the new features.

Buying a Property

If you are buying a property you can use your laptop to walk around the area and see what is there. Where the nearest stores and highways are. What the other properties look like. If they are well kept and tidy from the outside. The nearest school etc.

On Holiday

You can now know for sure just how far a walk the nearest beach and stores are from your hotel or holiday apartment by using Street View and taking a walk online yourself.

Art Projects

There are lots of other uses too. An artist uses it to go around the world from his laptop and paint what he sees. He is very successful in selling his paintings. Once you get the hang of using this you will really spend hours just walking around the streets of towns, cities and all other parts of the world.

Easy to Use Google Maps

Google Maps gives you a satellite view of the earth which you can then zoom in to any location you want. Whatever location in the world you want to view is typed into the search box on the left. When clicked Google maps then brings you to that location. You have a choice of viewing it through various ways like satellite view, terrain view etc.

This is so amazing that once you have discovered it you will spend hours using the Google search app and enjoying travelling around the world from your computer. You can actually walk down a street anywhere in the world and look at shops, houses and even people as they go about their daily lives.

Buying a Property

The benefits here are obvious. Buying a house is very stressful and time consuming. Even more so if you are planning to buy in an area, state or country you are not familiar with. Use Google Maps to look at the area for schools, shops and other facilities

Once you have inputted the country and area you are researching then you can use the added feature of highlighting the schools, hospitals and shops within that area. You can see how far it is to these places and even take a virtual walk from your prospective new house around the area. If the house you wanted to buy is too far or too close to something and therefore deemed not suitable then you have another option.

If after this Google Street View tour you decide you want to see what other properties are available in the area then you only have to activate another button on the map that will show you in an instant all properties for sale or rent in that area. Google Earth Street View is on all the estate agents websites so buying a property is so much easier. You do not have to leave your own home to take a walk around the area you are thinking of buying in. Google makes life easier for the internet user again!

No more relying on holiday brochures or websites when trying to decide where to take your next vacation. Once you have decided where you may want to visit bring up Google Street maps and type in the country and hotel address.

Walk Down the Street around the Hotel

Look at the area, see what shops and restaurants are there. How far away the beach is and if the area is built up with high rise hotels. You can also decide where you want to go on your excursions to see the real country.

Just take a virtual trip first from your computer and then decide. Apart from the practical use of this service will also give your hours of enjoyment planning your holiday and what you want to see for real once you arrive and begin your real vacation.

Educational Benefits

All 3D Google maps and locations can be added to websites or documents to make those assignments for school or college projects even better. Self education is a wonderful thing and the internet has certainly opened up this area of human endeavour with Google as the leader.

Writers and Artists

Fiction writers can now bring their characters into other cities and countries and let them fight the bad guys all over the world with authenticity even in countries they have never visited themselves. The writer can have the two main character fall in love and meet in any real café or museum in the world by using Google maps.

The reader can now visit the real places that novels are set in. All fans of the book the Da Vinci Code can follow the fictional characters journey through the real places in Italy that the story took place in.

By using this Google application and Pegman they can walk down the streets of Rome and see the Vatican, the statues and museums. Non Fiction writers are blessed with this Google facility. The benefits are enormous and have enriched their writing and the readers' enjoyment of it.

Famous Landmarks

Artists can Google any famous landmark in the world and paint it. Or as one now famous artist has done search on Google Maps for not so famous but all the same interesting landscapes and street views and paint them.

This artist is now selling his paintings for large amounts of money. All this without leaving the comfort of his own home and capturing images by using Google Maps through his computer instead.

How has Google Maps Street View made this possible? It has been driving around the world taking photographs of every street in the world. Not every country has been mapped yet. America, Canada, the UK and Europe are completed.

Google Pegman Icon

The icon that Google uses on your journey is called Pegman. He will become your friend and companion on your virtual trips around the world. Once you have entered the details of where you want to visit and have been brought there by Google Maps then Pegman is your eyes and legs.

You will see him on every map you go to. If you want to walk down that street and have a look you just have to activate Google Pegman by clicking on him and he brings you for an amazing walk anywhere you want to go.

Researching Your Family Tree

Those researching their Family Tree find Street View invaluable. When they come across a name of a town or street they are unfamiliar while doing their research then Street view provides the answers.

You too can visit the street and house where you were born and brought up in. Going further back into your family history and earlier generations is just as easy. Most marriage, death and birth certificates are now available online.

These papers give a wealth of information including the addresses of your relations. This gives you the opportunity to search Google Maps and Street View. You can walk down the street where your grandparents once lived. If you are lucky you may even be able to see the original house too.

The census of most countries are also online now. In Ireland we only have the 1901 and 1911 census online. The earlier ones were destroyed in a fire at the Customs House in Dublin during the Irish Civil War. But the UK has census records going way back to hundreds of years.

Google Maps Street View

Once you have downloaded Google Maps Street View you will use it all the time. I have outlined only a few of the many wonderful uses and benefits of these excellent applications. There are lots more for you to explore . Have a look yourself and start to enjoy your time online. It is very easy to use and free to non commercial users, I would recommend it completely.

Jaypyramid yes I did the same for lots of places I lived in. I walked down Lameroo in Australia where I lived as a child for a few years. It was amazing to re visit the places there.

And a house I once lived in about 25 years ago in England. I was able to use the Google Pegman to get very close to it and I could see how the front garden had changed and the garage replaced. I also walked down the main town and could see all the changes and what had NOT changed too. Like you say It really was weird but fasinating.

Google Street View is fantastic for checking out your holiday destinations. Everything is there for you to see BEFORE you visit the place for real.
