Bundle Gopro Hero 4 Silver

Bundle Hero 4 Black Edition

From the above comparison, it's clear that the GoPro Hero 4 cameras beat the Hero 3+ Black and Silver versions and their predecessors. For example, the low-light performance of both Hero 4 versions is outstanding, compared to the earlier models.

There are a few other notable differences between Hero 3+ and Hero 4: In both Hero 4 versions, the battery is placed at the bottom of the camera, instead of in back as in the Hero 3+. Also the Hero 4 Black doesn’t come with a remote, unlike the Hero3+ Black.

Why Should I Buy the GoPro Hero 4 Silver?

The biggest advantage of the GoPro Hero 4 Silver is the touchscreen. It has great user interfaces and usability, perfect for users not familiar with the GoPro action cam. You can control the camera from the front and can capture exactly what you want by looking through the LCD touchscreen.

The GoPro Silver includes an LCD screen. The screen can easily be turned on and off by pressing the button dedicated to this function in the corner of the cam.

Also, the battery on the Hero 4 Silver seems to last longer than the battery on the Hero 4 Black. In a test, I tried shooting using three different cameras at 1080p and 24fps: the Hero 3+ Black, and both the Silver and Black versions of the Hero 4. The Hero 4 Black battery drained out first, surviving only one hour and 30 minutes. I assume this is because of the Black's new-generation sensor and image quality. The Hero 4 Silver survived longer, around two hours, whereas the Hero 3+ Black survived around two hours and three minutes. It looks like the Hero 4 Silver has roughly 25% longer battery life than the Hero 4 Black, which is an argument for the Silver edition if you need long battery life.

Why Should I Buy GoPro Hero 4 Black?

The biggest reason to buy GoPro Hero4 Black is its outstanding 4K recording ability. The Hero 4 Black edition offers 4K recording at 30, 25, and 24 fps. It also has double the number of image processors.

One of the biggest user interface improvements I have noticed in the GoPro Black Hero 4 is the "Settings" Menu. In the earlier version the menu could be scrolled horizontally, but this edition offers vertical scrolling, which makes it quicker to select the desired menu.

The slow-motion features of the Hero 4 Black are way better than those of the Silver edition. Hero 4 Silver shoots 720p @ 120 fps (like Hero 3+ Black), but Hero 4 Black shoots 1080p @ 120 fps.

The audio quality of both Hero 4 Black and Silver is similar, with no significant differences.

Final Verdict

Both the GoPro Hero 4 Black and Hero 4 Silver edition cameras are outstanding compared to the earlier versions.

It’s obvious that 4k is a big plus for the Black edition, but if you really don’t use 4k it’s probably not the right pick for you. Additionally, if you would like to add a touchscreen to the Black edition you will need to spend another $80; thus the total cost of the GoPro Hero 4 Black, with everything included, is almost $200 more than the Silver edition. But if you are a huge fan of high definition and lots of pixels, then you should certainly go for the Black edition.

Remember, the GoPro Hero is a dedicated action cam. People using an action cam while doing sports need to stay aware of what they are doing; it's more important than staying aware of what the camera is recording. Happy clicking, and stay safe :)

I've only realised lately that the video quality of the Hero4 Black really drops when shooting at 120fps. Now, I'm wishing that I had gone for the Silver as I only shoot in 1080p /50fps now anyway. The Silver is more than capable of doing that and it has better Battery life AND an LCD Display.

I have $200 in BestBuy certificates and they have a black friday deal on the silver where you get the camera a $80 gift card and a 64gb sd card. I however have a 4k television the LG OLED to be exact so im wondering if passing on this deal and getting the black would be a better way to go for me?

Well I think if you can afford some extra money then its better to get black edition and then you can buy additional touchscreen too for that. But I would say silver edition is also great to have. I have given the best price deal there in the beginning of the review. There is some bundle offer. For me those Bundle offers are great and money saving.

      Nice comparison :)

I can get the Hero 4 Black for the same price as silver.

Which one should I then get?

Would you still recommend the silver for beginner?

Feel like i should buy the Black edition because its usually more expensive than the Silver :P

But it would be nice with that touchscreen.

Would really appreciate some input :)

It's Up to which one best fitted on your requirement. If you are a new potential user then I would Recommend you to go for Hero 4 silver edition. Otherwise Black is great for advanced users.

From this rewiew it looks like Hero 4 Silver is almost the same as Hero 3 except the touchscreen which I do not need. Does it still worth buying over the 3? I would use it on a quadcopter.
