Wall-sized HD movies in your own home

If you are interested in wall-sized, high-definition movies in your home, this hub is for you.

This is your lucky day! The price of home theater projectors keeps falling while the quality of the projected image gets better and better.

Take the Epson PowerLite Home Cinema 8350 for example. If you want, you can enhance your move experience by including home theater in your home automation network.

Epson PowerLite Home Cinema 8350

With its zoom lens it can produce an 80" widescreen image from just 8' away, or a 120" image from just 12' away.

It produces sharp, crystal-clear detailed images in full 1080P with a resolution of 1920x1080.

Epson claims that "The PowerLite Home Cinema 8350 brings astounding, true-to-life color to images onscreen:"

This Epson exclusive technology expands the color gamut to reproduce colors as filmmakers intended. This generates a more natural color palette and ensures a more vivid viewing experience."

Epson attributes the brilliant, rich and vibrant colors in the image to a number of technical innovations including its

"C2Fine technology and 3LCD 3-chip technology" and its "exclusive cinema filter and a state-of-the-art Fujinon™ lens."

With 2000 lumens of color and white light output it can be viewed during daytime or at night.

Noise from a projector noise can be an annoying distraction, but this baby is unusually quit with its fan producing only 22 dB.

Expected lamp life for its E-TORL lamp is 4000 hours. At only 200 watts it is relatively energy efficient.

This projector has a dust filter that keeps its internal part clean for top performance. The extra-large filter can be removed and cleaned.

  • Connect any type of computer that has a USB port, standard video output (monitor) port, or HDMI port
  • For video projection, connect devices such as DVD players, gaming consoles, digital cameras, and camera phones with compatible video output ports.
  • If your presentation or video includes sound, you can connect audio input cables, if necessary.
  • For slide shows without a computer, you can connect USB devices (such as a flash drive or camera).

Reviews - Epson Home Cinema Projector 8350

Reviews of the Epson 8350 are generally outstanding -- at the time I wrote this hub, Epson reviewers rated it 4.8 out of 5; over three-quarters of Amazon reviewers gave it a 5-star rating. Here are examples:

  • "This is my second projector, the first one lasted 7 years. The clarity of the picture over the old one is amazing. Ease of set-up and operation is outstanding. It is much quieter operating than older unit. And the price had dropped to 1/3 of the original unit. I have several Epson items and am thrilled with all of them." (Bugmugs)"
  • this projector is AWESOME. 120" + HD picture on my wall!!" (Steve)
  • "We went from a 720p to 1080p and are amazed at the difference in picture." (lucysmom)
"My 3rd Epson projector (went from 480p to 720p to 1080p). This is the best one yet. The picture is stunning. 1080p at 120" is spectacular. (Rosebud)
  • "We are 'blown away. by the brightness, sharpness and contrast of the 8350. It is also very quiet, almost silent." (George)
  • "The quality of the image is unsurpassed in its class and probably the next class up. One overlooked feature is the lens shift. There are no digital image manipulation controls on this projector. As long as the lens is parallel to the screen, the lens-shift will make sure it is centered. Optical lens shift is a feature usually only found on high end projectors." (slipgate)

Other advantages of the 3010 compared to the 8350:

  • brighter picture (2200 vs. 2200 lumens)
  • more content input options
  • built-in audio speakers (2 10W stereo speakers vs. none)
  • more lamp life (up to 5000 hours vs. 4000)

With a few more bells and whistles included, the PowerLite Home Cinema 3010 may be the way to go

If you want 3D movies and wireless content reception, go with Epson Home Cinema Projector 3010

If want the flexibility of showing 3D movies, the PowerLite Home Cinema 8350 is not for you.

If you want the avoid the clutter of wires and use a projector that receives HD content wirelessly, the 8350 is not for you,

For just a few hundred dollars more, you could go for the PowerLite Home Cinema 3010 that projects in HD, 2D and 3D.

One version of the 3010 includes a built-in wireless receiver and a wireless content transmitter.

With a few more bells and whistles included, the PowerLite Home Cinema 3010 may be the way to go

What is your experience with the Epson Home Cinema Projector 8350?
