How Technology Changed Our Life
When one hears the word technology, smart phones, computers and electronic gadgets usually are the first images that come to mind. Because of this, people think of technology as something that makes life complicated but in reality, technology has made our lives very simple.
Most of the simplest household equipments that you use daily are products of technology. For example, take a look at your toothbrush. To create the modern toothbrush, scientists and engineers have developed machines that turn polymers into plastic and sticks that you can use to scrub your teeth in the morning. Can you see yourself using a wooden toothbrush? I don’t think so.
The most simplified definition of technology is the application of scientific knowledge for practical purposes. Digital technology is only a part of this very broad subject but since it the one which is mostly associated with the word let me give you some suggestions on how you can use digital technology to simplify your life.
Shop online. Not only can you save money with coupons and promotions on online shopping deals, you can also save a trip to the store. This allows you to save your gas money which is ridiculously getting more and more expensive.
Technology also helps you simplify your financial life. Nowadays, most banks offer direct deposit and online billpay so you can set up your monthly bill payments once. This saves you the hassle of having to write checks and mail bills each month. Online banking also allows you to track your spendings and expenses from home so you do not have to visit the bank just to make an inquiry.
For people who have kids, a digital camera would definitely make your life a lot easier, that is, if you are still using your old film camera. You would have to shell out some cash to do the upgrade but you will find that a digital camera would actually save you quite a bit of money in the long run. You can take hundreds of pictures and print only one but still get to keep all of them in a computer or CD. Digital pictures mean fewer trips to the store for prints and some photo shops even allow you to e-mail your photos in and you can just pick them up later.
In my opinion, one of the greatest technological advancement that we have now are cellphones. Name one of your friends who don’t have a cellphone. I am hacking my brain to come up with a name but I can’t. Everyone I know owns a cellphone, probably because it is such a hassle not to have one. We live in the boonies and as I kid I remember that my dad had to make an hour drive just to be able to make a call. Thanks to today’s technology my Dad now sends text messages and phone calls wherever he is. Very convenient but is quite a bummer for my younger sister because he checks up on her quite often.
Life has changed over the years and technology has made great leaps in these last few decades. Most of the advances are intended to make our lives easier and more simple. It is up to us if we are going to abuse it or not.
