Find Your IP Address On Your Mac

There are many occasions you might need to learn your computer's IP address. It can come in handy when setting up a network, troubleshooting, or filesharing. Whatever the reason, your IP address can be easily obtained through your computer's system preferences panel.

Find Your Mac's IP Address Through System Preferences

1. Use the Apple drop-down menu in the top left-hand corner of your screen to access the system preferences panel.

2. In the system preferences panel, under "Internet and Network," select "Network."

3. Your IP address will be the first number listed.

Older Mac Operating Systems

If you are running an older operating system on your Mac, you may see a drop down menu under "Network" titled "Show." If this is the case, simply select the network you would like obtain information for (most likely airport or built-in ethernet) and select "TCP/IP" from the tabs listed. Your IP address will appear as the first number.
