How to Add or Embed Only a Part of Youtube Video in PPT From Specific Start Time to End Time

Updated on November 15, 2015

Want to show only a snippet of a Youtube video in your PowerPoint presentation? Read on to see how to trim or chop Youtube video in PPT by just modifying the video link.

Copying the Link

Open the Youtube video page. Go to the address bar on top and copy the video ID, which would be at the very end after v= in the link. Copy these letters. Replace the VIDEOID in the below code with these letters.

Youtube Video Code

http://www.youtube.com/v/VIDEOID?version=3&start=8&end=16&autoplay=1&hl=en_US&rel=0

Modifying the Link

After that, modify the link according to your preference.

  • start= indicates the beginning point of your video that you want to show in your PPT and it should be in seconds. So, change the value "8" to a number of your choice..
  • end= indicates the ending point of your video that you want to show in your PPT and it should be in seconds. So, change the value "16" to a number of your choice.
  • autoplay=1 will make the video to play automatically during the slideshow.
  • autoplay=0 means you have to click play in the video for it to start playing during the slideshow.

Copy the entire link and this is the link that you are going to paste in your PPT.

Video Tutorial

Adding the Video to PPT

Open your PPT. Click Microsoft icon and then PowerPoint options. Put a checkmark in Show Developer Tab in ribbon and click OK. Now, you can see the developer tab in the PPT ribbon.

Click the wrench icon. Select Shockwave Flash Object.

Now, your cursor will become a crosshair and use this to draw a box. This is the video box and it acts like an object. Right click over this box and click Properties.

In the Properties box, go to the movie column, paste the link that we had earlier copied in this location, and click the cross-mark and close the box.

I got the clip to appear in my powerpoint slide, but how do I reset it for each time I come to the slide?

The presentation I have is being looped. The video plays the first time through but will not play anytime after that. What do I need to do to have the video replay every time the slide comes up again?

Thank you so much! I've been watching videos for about 2 hours trying to figure this out and then stumbled on your page. So easy!!! Only wish I had found yours first.
