The Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) houses all Texas inmates, and TDCJ operates the second largest jail/prison system in the United States.

Because the TDCJ is so large, you might believe that a Texas inmate search is a difficult task. However, nothing could be farther from the truth, it is actually easy to locate a Texas inmate.

Your search for a person locked up in a Texas correctional facility will begin at the TDCJ Online Offender Information Search Page.

Once you are on the page, you will need to enter the first and last name of the Texas inmate you are searching for.

It may be a good idea to enter the first and last name only for the inmate search, because if there is any mistakenly entered information, it may throw off the search.

If the person you are looking for is incarcerated by the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ), he/she will be on this list.

If the person is not on the list, and you are certain the person is in a Texas jail, contact the TDCJ at 800-535-0283 - note that when you contact them by telephone, you will need to know the name and birth date of the Texas inmate.

Having a loved one locked up in jail or prison can be a very tough situation to deal with. You worry about the health and safety of that person, and you want to make things easier for them within the limits of the law.

There are several organizations in place that address the concerns of and offer support to people who have an incarcerated loved one, here are a few links:

As always, I wish you the very best. If you are having trouble locating an inmate you are sure is incarcerated in a Texas correctional facility, please leave a comment below and I'll see what I can do to help.
