How to Image Search in Google
The task of a Google is awkward one. Your search keyword(s) must be matched with pictures — a much trickier task than matching up words with a text. The best part is that Google could make qualified presumptions regarding the subjected matter or identity of a picture that is based on the file name of the image/picture, the image’s URL address, any caption and the containing text. Hence, results are bound to be variable. Luckily, Google goes wrong on the side of large quantity, presenting tons of achievable images and other photos in your keywords’ response.
Simple image searches are indistinguishable to Web searches. To get started, from the home page of Google, click on the Images tab, put in single keyword or two, and then hit Enter. You might even utilize the site, inurl, allinurl, intitle, and allintitle, search operators while searching for images.
However, the things differ in the search results compared to Web searches. Image results will be presented in the thumbnails form, in other words small versions of images. Click on any thumbnail image to see it’s larger version, together with the URL on which it is residing. Image is being reproduced beyond the Webpage that containing the image — perhaps a waste of space. This 2nd duplication of the picture/image is generally a thumbnail. You can click such thumbnail in order to be presented a full-size version of the image/picture. Or scrolling down the page will to see the image/picture in context.
Whenever you couldn’t find present events images in Google Image search, you can attempt to perform a photo search in the Web index of Google that turns up images whenever asked for them. Put the word photos in your keyword search string. Such trick works sometimes, but actually not always — certainly, it disappointed to show the Shuffle.
Using Google Advanced Image Search
Like ordinary Web searches, a set of enhanced search tools is provided by Google on the page of Advanced Image Search. You can follow the following link in order to get to that page:
https://www.google.com/advanced_image_search
The Find results part of the page of Advanced Image Search is almost similar to the web search results of Advanced Search page. Here the distinction is the keyword modifiers regarding pictures by matching file names, text near the images, and captions. Utilize the keyword search boxes in order to add search modifiers to your search keywords, however, do not assume precise textual matches as with Web searches cause photos actually are not text.
There are the following settings that resolve the type and location of the pictures you are searching for, in the find results part of Advanced Image Search page:
Size: This restricts your image search to certain sizes. In fact, the choices are unclear for most options. The choices are Large, Medium, Icon, Larger than <dimensions> and Larger than <mega pixels>. By themselves, these options are almost worthless. They generally refer to the dimensions of the images, not their file size.
Type: Select any of the options from Face, Photo, Clip art, Line Drawing, and Animated. I think there is no need to go in detail for each item in the options as these are self explanatory by names.
Color: Here you can choose to locate transparent, black & white images, or full-color art. Full-color pictures are mostly the largest file sizes. You can also choose your own color using this option.
Site or Domain: Utilizing this keyword box you can indicate a Web domain which you require to find images. This is a useful way for searching graphics of online newspaper.
Filetypes: Using this drop-down menu to choose JPG, GIF, PNG or other file formats. As a practical matter, such file formats are almost identical. Anything you are planning to do with your searched images, you may perhaps do similarly well with any one of those formats.
SafeSearch: Explicit search results can be filtered on Google, such as pornography. This is also a fact that SafeSearch is not 100% accurate. Other than it could help you in avoiding inappropriate and explicit search results.
Usage rights: This option is important if you are searching for image to use in your own websites or blog. This option has various choices:
- Free to use or share: You just want to use the image(s) as is in your blog/website
- Free to use or share, even commercially: You can use this image(s) as is in your blog/website even sell them
- Free to use, share or modify: You can freely use the image(s) in your blog/website and even modify their contents as per your requirement
- Free to use, share or modify, even commercially: You can freely use the image(s) in your blog/website and even modify their contents as per your requirement and may also sell them
Some of the above advance options you may find on the image search pages as well while clicking Tools option. Here you will find another option Time. This is very good option. You can search images that are updated or indexed on specified time period. The choices are: Past 24 hours, Past Week, Past Month, Past Year. Fortunately, you can also specify your own From – To period by using Custom Range option. Using this option you can easily search new and old images/pictures. Here also in Size option you find Exactly, using which you specify your desired images’ exact width and height.
You might also utilize search operators in Google Images, like you do in the Web searches of Google. Few operators, such as info and intext, do not naturally apply to images. It is good to use the following operators:
intitle: Search for pictures in Web pages which have some keywords in their page titles.
filetype: Utilize this search operator in order to search certain image’s file types, such as JPG, GIF, PNG etc.
inurl: Search for images/pictures in the Web pages when your keyword(s) is found in their URL.
site: Limit image search to on the site domains / specific pages.
