How to Incorporate Art In Your Everyday Life

Updated on February 3, 2015

Digital, fractal and cyber art and write about anything I find strange, weird, bizarre or interesting.

Resolved: More Art!

You may have a New Year’s resolution to include more art into your life but you don’t know how. Or maybe you just resolved to put some more whims and whimsy into your humdrum existence but you aren’t clear how to get that done either.

Well, fortunately for you it’s not that hard. And what can be particularly cool is that you can get your whimsy on and get all artsy at the same time.

Bloggers Unite

Chances are that you are a blogger or you play one on TV. Isn’t that how you got here? And one of the underlying reasons you want to get all artsy is you want some more art for your blog. Not only can you attract more eyeballs with more art but art can inspire you to write more stores. For instance, if I say consider the city at night; surely that creates any number of panoramas in your mind. If it doesn’t that’s okay too because I know where you can get some panoramas. Try Foter.com.

Bridge At Night

Ordinarily I would go for the nightly cityscape of some densely populated metropolitan area but the lights on this bridge caught my eye so I went with it. The main thing you need to do use Foter photos is the main things free photo sites always want you to do which is to tell where you got the picture from.

Source

Wiki Piki

A good old standby for free art is of course wikimedig.org. Be sure to attribute. I have included here a more tradition midnight cityscape. Who says there is no beauty in technology?

Source

Flickr

On Flickr.com you will want enter the Commons or to make sure that you choose the menu setting that shows you only pictures in the Creative Commons to get photos that you may use, with attribution, in your work.

.GOV Photos

Another place which you should go to get photos of cities at night is a government website. Your tax dollars at work! You might as well get some use out of your tax money. Not everything the federal government buys is a $400 gold plated toilet seat. Sometimes they do useful stuff!

The attached photo is of Shanghai, China at night. The photo was hosted on a NASA website:

Giovanna (Adventuretravels) some of the photos that some governments have in their archives can be used by ordinary citizens in their blogs. I would imagine that the UK has some kind of policy like this? But I have not looked into this.

Peggy thanks for dropping by. I think you emphasize the right points.

On occasion I am surprised what I see in wikipedia that is marked with no copy right. I guess if they are government pictures or if they are old enough that kind of thing can happens.

Since I sometimes create some of my own digital art I use my own images a lot.

Thanks for spreading the word about using the right kind of free pictures in the public domain with proper attributions given. Unless one has taken photos personally or has the express permission to use images from friends or other sources...which still need to be given attributions...this is an important topic and worth sharing (which I am happy to do!) Good use of images in this hub!

I love art, and would love to have more of it in my life. I have some ideas, but am limited. Your ideas here of using some photos from sites where it is allowed, is a great idea to spruce up some blogs or articles. The idea of using photos of large cities at night is a neat one. There are some very incredible images to be captured and shared for sure. I bookmarked this to come back to later on.

Hello Cheryl. It does sound pretty cool that they asked you to help out a bit to use their photos. I know I would not have minded contributing a minute or two.

I love seeing art in every day life. I've used the .gov site before too. At that time, in exchange, they requested that you help add keywords to some of their photos. That was pretty cool.
