Getting a new website and installing Wordpress on it isn't difficult. You just need to know the current, up-to-date steps to do it. Anyone with a keyboard and mouse can install Wordpress using HostGator's cPanel in less than 5 minutes.

The reason I recommend Wordpress to everyone (I'm a web designer/developer for a living) is because it allows anyone to publish their own content online in a very aesthetic way. You don't have to know any coding either!

If this all sounds right up your alley, what are we waiting for? Let's learn how to install Wordpress!

What You'll Need

There are 2 required items you must have before you can install Wordpress. These are:

1) Domain name

2) Website hosting

I am assuming you have both of these already. But if you don't, you can get both a domain name and website hosting from the Quick Install section (above) by clicking the "get it here" links.

If you already have both, you're all set.

When you signed up for HostGator website hosting, you should have received an email containing this sort of information...

Shared Plan: The plan you signed up for
Your Control Panel: URL to your cPanel
Username: YourUsername
Password: password1234
1st Nameserver:
2nd Nameserver:
Server IP: 123.456.789.01

With the above information, you will have access to every single feature needed to install Wordpress quickly and easily.

Logging Into Your Custom Control Panel (cPanel)

The first thing you want to do is copy your control panel URL and paste it into your browser URL/Address bar. Hit enter. You will come to a screen that looks like this...

List of Icons Within cPanel

Once there, enter your new login information (from your email) to log into your control panel. Upon successful login, you'll see a screen like this:

Quick Install Feature

The only icon we're interested in is the "Quick Install" icon. Scroll down the control panel page until you find it, then click it.

After clicking the Quick Install icon, you will need to select which blogging/website software you want to install. If you haven't figured it out yet, we'll be installing Wordpress today.

Within the left-hand column, you will see a heading called "Blog Software" and underneath that heading you'll see "Wordpress."

Click the Wordpress link.

There, you will see the latest version of Wordpress you'll be installing. Click the "Continue" button.

Installing Wordpress (Main Section)

At last, you're finally going to do some installing!

First, you'll select the domain name you want to install Wordpress on. If you don't have a choice to select a domain name, that means you haven't added any domain names to your HostGator control panel yet. If this is the case, please read my hub on How to Add a Domain Name Using the HostGator Control Panel.

Otherwise, simply fill out the information below to install Wordpress.

After filling out the above information and clicking "Install Now!" you will see a green progress bar. This bar will show you how far along the installation is. Installation usually only takes a few seconds.

After installation is complete, you will be given log in information for your new Wordpress website.

If, for some reason, you accidentally installed Wordpress on an incorrect domain name or if you've made some type of error during installation, simply click the "Manage Installations" button at the top of the screen and you'll be able to uninstall Wordpress with the click of a button.

Accessing Your New Wordpress Dashboard

To access your new Wordpress website login page, you will need to append either one of these lines of text after your domain name...

1) /wp-login.php
2) /wp-admin/

/wp-admin/ (proceeding your domain name) will redirect to /wp-login.php

And there you have it! That wasn't too hard, right? I hope not!

To recap, here's what we did:

1. Logged into our HostGator cPanel.

2. Clicked the Quick Install icon.

3. Under "Blog Software" heading, clicked Wordpress, then clicked Continue button.

4. Selected the domain name to install Wordpress on and filled out our information.

5. Clicked "Install Now!" button.
