How to Share a Google Doc
It’s Easy to Want to Stick to Our Old Ways
Sometimes what’s familiar to us feels easier, but when it comes to saving data space Google Docs is an amazing tool. If you’ve already mastered the basics but just need some help with sending and sharing, this tutorial will get you there!
Share With an Email
If you want someone to be able to access your documents through email, look to the upper right hand corner of your screen.
There is a big blue button that says SHARE. Click this button. If you’re using an app, it‘s the gray icon of a person and a plus sign nearby. View image below if you’re unsure.
Different Sharing Options
Now a window will open where you can share your document through email or link. From this point, on both your PC browser and your app, you will be able to easily type in the email of the person you wish to send it to.
If you wish to simply send a link, click on the hyperlink icon (depicted below) and copy, sometimes it will happen automatically.
Remember that once you share a link, it can be forwarded to anyone unless you turn off the viewing permissions. Be careful what you share! if you're sharing to someone you've never met, don't add personal information that could compromise your identity or your safety.
Grant Permissions to Your Google Doc
Once you've figured out how to share a Google Doc file, you can also control what people are allowed to do with it. From both your phone and your app, there is a menu with View, Comment, and Edit options.
- Viewing allows the person to read your Google Doc.
- Comment allows them to highlight and make suggestions
- Edit allows the person to make and save changes to your Google Doc
