How to Stop Quick Editing Tools From Showing on Your Blogger Blog

Quick edit tools are displayed as a wrench and screwdriver icon beside each widget on your Blogger blog. The purpose of the quick edit tools is to give you a one click way to edit different aspects of your blogger page. When they are showing, no one else, but you, can see them or edit your blog. I will discuss two different ways of stopping the quick edit tools from showing, if you don't like them.

*The following instructions are for use with the classic Blogger interface. I'm not sure how much different it would be in the updated interface, but you can freely switch back and forth between the two.

The first way to stop the quick edit icons from showing on your Blogger page is to simply change the setting. Here's how:

1. Sign into your Blogger blog from the navbar on the top of the screen or the "powered by Blogger" link in the footer.

2. Click on the "Settings" link in the "Manage Blog" area.

3. Scroll down to the "Show Quick Editing on your Blog?" option and select "No"

4. Scroll down and push "Save Settings"

5. Now when you look at your Blogger blog, the icons should be gone.

The second option can be used if the first option doesn't work. This happened on my blog, which is the reason I'm writing this. Hopefully I can save someone else the frustration I just went through. If for some reason setting the "show quick edit icons" to no doesn't work, try this:

1. Sign into your Blogger Blog from the navbar or attribution footer.

2. Click "Design" in the "Manage Blogs" area.

3. Click the "Edit HTML" link in the upper left hand corner.

4. Save your blog by clicking "Download Full Template" so you have a back-up.

5. Find the code similar to the code below, it should be near the beginning of the HTML.

-----------------------------------------------
Blogger Template Style
Name: Watermark
Designer: Josh Peterson
URL: www.noaesthetic.com
----------------------------------------------- */

6. Just below the dotted line, insert the following code. You can copy and paste it into the HTML.

.quickedit{display:none;}

7. Push "enter" then click "Save Template". When you view your blog the quick edit tools should no longer appear.

8. To get the tools to display again, simply remove the code and "Save Template".

Hopefully this helps.
