How to Use the Facebook Limited Profile

Setting up some of your Facebook Friends with what is called a Limited Profile is a way to use your Facebook account both as a personal and business networking tool, as long as you understand who can see what about you and your posts.

To create a Facebook Limited Profile you need to access the area of the site where you can make Friend Lists go to Account > Edit Friends.

Create a Facebook Limited Profile

In the upper right hand, click the button that says "Create a List." You can now create a list with the name Limited Profile and add people to that list.

After the list has been created you can add or remove people from the list individually by hovering your mouse near each friend. A button saying "Edit Lists" will appear and you will see which lists a person is on.

Who Sees Your Posts?

Lists can also be useful for creating distribution channels of information, for instance, a Friends List of all those people you grew up with or went to school with or work with.  When making a post/status update, adding a link or a photos you can specifically choose which Friends List will be able to view that post by clicking the button shaped like a lock right next to the Share button.

Once you have created a Limited Profile list, you can use the name of that list to specifically exclude information when creating your Custom Privacy Settings.
