Updated on November 15, 2015

Insert Youtube Video in PowerPoint

In this tutorial, you will see how to add YouTube video to PowerPoint. This method can be applied to PPT 2007, 2010, and 2003. Let's see how Jim and Tim do this.

Tim: Hey Jim!

Jim: Hi!

Tim: I am doing a presentation at my work tomorrow and want to make it an interesting one.

Jim: Good!

Tim: Dude, I've found a superb video on Youtube to go along with my PPT, but how to put this Youtube video in PPT? Any idea?

Jim: It's very easy to add Youtube video in Powerpoint presentation.

Tim: Is it?

Jim: There is a free add-in to do this.

Tim: Hmmm.... Add-in? Is it safe?

Jim: Yep, it was developed by Mr. Syam Pillai of Microsoft, so very safe.

Tim: Where to download it?

Jim: Download it from the below link.

Tips and Cautions

  • As with any add-in, you have to set the Macro security to low. Else, the Youtube add-in may not be properly installed.
  • This is a Youtube video and internet connection is a must during your presentation.

Tim: Ok, then?

Jim: Unzip and extract to a folder. Open your PPT presentation and click Powerpoint Options under the Microsoft Window logo at the top.

Tim: Hey dude! I know how to install an add-in. We have to click the Add-ins on the left side menu and select the Powerpoint add-in from the pull-up menu.

Jim: Exactly!

Tim: Click on the Add New button and select the .ppam file in the extracted folder.

Jim: Yep!

Tim: The add-in will be added and you can see a small check mark near it.

Jim: Yes, but one more thing. If you had set your macro security as high, you won't be able to install the add-in.

Tim: Is it?

Jim: Yes, this is true in case of most of the add-ins.

Tim: Oh! Now?

Jim: You can see your add-in in the Insert ribbon.

Tim: Ok...

Jim: Now, click on the slide where you want to add Youtube video in PPT. Click the Youtube icon in the Insert ribbon at the top. A wizard will open and it will take you through the whole process.

Tim: Hmm...

Jim: Enter the Youtube video address in the link box. You can just copy the link from the address bar of your browser.

Tim: Oh!

Jim: Your video will be added as an object and you can easily change its position and size. So, just ignore the position and size options in the wizard and click Finish. Your video will be placed in PPT.

Tim: That's it?

Jim: Yep, now you can only see the video object, but when you play the PPT presentation in slide show mode, you can see your video.

Tim: Ok.

Jim: While playing the slide show, click on the video to pause or play it. Once you are done with the video, just click outside the video on the slide to progress your PPT presentation.

Tim: Dude! This was dead easy! I didn't think we can so easily place Youtube video in PPT. Thank you!

Jim: No problem man! By the way, don't forget this is a Youtube video, so you need internet connection for this to play.

Tim: Yeah, yeah, I know that. Bye, bye!

Jim: Bye!
