How to choose the right iPod as a gift

Updated on August 6, 2011

If you are looking for a nice gift for your family or friends, or you just want a portable music device for yourself, an iPod would always be a good choice, the only issue remaining may be deciding  exactly which model to buy.

If you are looking for a personalized gift with a unique touch, a good place to start  would be from the Apple store because you can get there a free inscription on the iPod device. Other places like eBay or Amazon can be cheaper than what you would pay at the Apple store, but don't do the inscription on the device for free.

There are different types of iPod: iPod shuffle, iPod nano, iPod Classic and iPod Touch.

iPod nano

If the gift is for a person that would like to exercise with the iPod, select the music to play, and needs a lot of storage space, then, the iPod nano is the best choice.

The iPod nano indeed, is a very small device that has a screen so you can listen to music and also watch videos. With an iPod nano you can store your music in the device and set up a playlists for different circumstances such as songs for the gym, for a trip, for the car, etc.

iPod shuffle

If the gift instead is for a person that would like to be able to change songs easily by just shaking the device and does not need to hold many songs in it, the iPod Shuffle should be the best choice.

The iPod shuffle is very small and doesn’t have a screen so you can’t watch videos. On this device, you can only reorganize the shuffle, but you can’t choose the play order or the songs you want to hear; when you shake it the device will shuffle to another song. You can easily attach it to your cloths with a clip.

iPod Classic

Of course, if the gift is designated to a person who really needs a lot of storage and would also like to be able to watch videos, (for example a person who travels a lot) then the iPod Classic would fit perfectly. The iPod Classic indeed is able to save up to 40,000 songs, up to 200 hours of videos or 25,000 photos!

iPod Touch

Finally, if the gift is for a sophisticated person who would like to be able to listen to music, watch videos, play games etc. by only tapping a finger on the screen, then, you should go with an iPod Touch.

The iPod Touch, unlike the other iPods, is a touch screen device, meaning that in other to make a selection , you only have to tap or slide a finger on the screen. This device is able to play music, videos, connect to the Internet and download games and apps directly from iTunes to iPod Touch. Because it’s a very high Tech gadget with a nice and useful touch screen interface, this can be a very good gift to consider.
