How to use spotify in countries where it's not available

Updated on July 11, 2013

Spotify’s integration in facebook is great. It enables you to stream music and share it with your friends. It even lets you listen songs with the people in your friendlist in realtime. Now spotify isn't yet available in many countries (like mine) and people are feeling that they have been left behind. Realising that only a handful of people in my friendlist are using spotify and many of my friends asking me about how I managed to get it to work I felt I should help them out. I searched hubpages before writing this tutorial and found, surprisingly, that there were no hubs related to this topic. So here it is.

Source

First of all get TunnelBear. It is a great and easy to use VPN app. You can download it from the tunnelbear website. It is available for windows and mac and even for android and iPhones!

Source

After the installation you will be asked to make a new account.

Source

Enter your details and a valid email id that you can access as you will receive a confirmation link there.

Source

You can select the paid version if you do stuff that requires you to change your VPN a lot. But for spotify’s installation the free version will be enough.

Source

After you’ve successfully confirmed your email account, turn on tunnelbear and choose the US option from the right dial.

Source

Next go to spotify’s website and download the app without being bothered by the previous “not available in your country” error. Download and install it on your computer.

After it’s installation you can login using your facebook details.

Source

Turn off tunnelbear while spotify is running.

Lo and behold, you’re ready to use spotify and browse through the infinite amount of music it has to offer. The free version of tunnelbear offers only 500mb of data per month, but unknown reasons spotify does not check for geographic location once it has been installed. This means that now you can use spotify without tunnelbear!

Amazing piece of content. What's your opinion about HOLA VPN? I'm using that tool for my personal use. Also, I got a modded version of the app. Here's it:

One option I've been using to get Spotify Premium is https://musicforworld.com/index.html. It's the best if you have the money. No ads, download music offline, high quality songs, can use it on your phone or laptop, etc. The only problem is that it costs $10USD per month. I've been using it for 3 months now with no issues and I'd recommend it.

I have the same problem as Jelena has. I used Hola extension worked fine for few days, but I got the same notification like Jelena got. Looking at the problems that people have with Tunnel Bear it appears that there is no use using that app. Seriously, why Spotify company has been launched if they are not trying to make the service be globally available like last.FM for example? I've even read about them on Wikipedia, that company doesn't have a bright reputation.

      hey.

I tried using tunnelbear AND hotspot shield.

it's not working. once sporting is installed (and I get excited), I tap on it feeling all hopeful but then it closes on a second and shows unfortunately Spotify has stopped working. I installed Pandora using the same method and it worked like a charm. also, other people have it working too (judging from the recent YouTube comments on the tutorial ). so why am I having the problem. help. thanks in advance :)

For those who want Spotify on Android:

      1. Download Spotify app from Aptoide

      2. Download Hotspot Shield from Play Store

      3. Go to Hotspot Shield and click Protect my connection

      4. Now go to Spotify and login with Facebook or create a new account.

      5. When you're done with signing up on Spotify, go to Hotspot Shield an turn off protection.

Now you can listen music for free. You can try Spotify Premium for two days. You will have to enable Hotspot Shield every two weeks for a couple of minutes just because Spotify needs to think that you're in the US.

      Hi,

I've been using TunnelBear for a while to log into Spotify pretending to be from the UK. but recently it stopped working. I checked my IP location with tunnelbear on using sites like http://whatismyipaddress.com/ and it indeed showed UK. It seems like Spotify detects and blocks the uses of VPNs on its app and website, I have tried reinstalling and redownloading TunnelBear but it seems like the problem only exists with Spotify. Would you know any solutions?

      Thanks.

      Oh, sorry for the misunderstanding.

Which country are you from? The country specified in your spotify profile should match the country of your card. And yes, no way around it.

      Hello,

      Thank you for the response.

What I meant is to pay, but with my payment method which is not from one of the countries Spotify is supporting. It is not accepting my card as it is not from a listed country. I assume there is no way around it..

I've been using tunnelbear to use spotify in Pakistan for a while, but recently I've run in to a problem where I'm not able to sign in anymore. The country selected on my profile is US and I use the US option on tunnelbear. Now it tells me that my country does not match the one set in my profile even though US is selected on tunnelbear when I'm running it.

      Hello lauren,

you can use spotify anywhere in the world. As it's mentioned above you need a VPN application like tunnelbear first. Since you already have a spotify account just download tunnelbear, verify your email, choose the US option and you're good to go!

Okay, so I use spotify in USA, but am in another country now. So they are not letting me log in because they are checking the location apparently. Any way to fix the problem?

      hello bukiswag,

well I don't have much experience with iphone applications, but I searched a bit and maybe this will help solve your problem.

*Sign out of your iTunes account and scroll to the bottom of the store. You'll see a little flag for your country. Click on it and you'll be able to change your country to the United Kingdom.

*Search for Spotify in the store and try to download it. You'll be prompted to create an account. It's important that you do it in this order or you will be asked to provide a credit card.

*Make a new account with a fake address. If you search for UK in Google Maps and then search for a fast food restaurant, such as McDonalds, you'll be able to get a full phone number and address that you can use. Enter all of that in to create your fake account and choose "None" as a payment method when prompted.

*iTunes will send you a verification email. Verify your email address and go try to download Spotify again from the iTunes App Store. This time it'll work.

*Now you need a Spotify account. Visit daveproxy.co.uk and enter http://www.spotify.com in the URL field. This will allow you to access Spotify through a proxy so it thinks you're in the UK.

*Sign up for a free Spotify account.

      Download Spotify and enjoy!

But FYI spotify requires a paid premium account to work on mobile devices, but you can try it for free for two weeks.
