Is the use of Facebook and other Social Media decreasing the number of emails?

Updated on September 23, 2011

As more and more of my friends join Facebook, I noticed that the number of emails I receive per day have dropped...

And the ones that I receive are from people which aren't my friends at facebook or still don't have an account...

People, now choose to post on facebook/twitter and other social media, instead of sending emails! Because it's easier, it's integrated in most of the site nowadays, and they can have instant feedback on what there friends think of their posts!

And sometimes I get myself thinking: should I send this video on an email or post it on facebook? Then I think who I want to target and I must confess that most of the times... i post it on facebook, ignoring my friend who still haven't joined...

This has been great for detecting spam and reducing the number of junk emails on my inbox.

I've been thinking in this a lot! I don't have numbers yet but I'm going to research a little bit further and if I can find them, I'll edit this hub!

What do you think about this? Haven't you noticed it yet?

Have you noticed the decrease in emails received?

I used to keep in touch with people using MSN messenger, but since Facebook has risen to such popularity, most of my friends are no longer using MSN messenger. These days it is common to hear people say "Facebook me", as apposed to "call me", or "email me".

I think it is! And now when they come up with the new email interface inside facebook, things are going to change even more.

Maybe then you can update this hub with that info!

I've noticed it for certain. At the moment, Facebook is really taking over; still, I think email will always serve a purpose.
