Meeting of the minds, from Internet clicks to God. Do you have a bargained for exchange or just a marketing mousetrap.

Updated on February 24, 2013

This road is gone. An interstate was built. This photo is taken in 115 degree heat. That point in the future is almost a thousand feet higher.

I traveled this road before the interstate, this view is just slightly different than my next. That vanishing point is a meeting of parallel lines.

Just phishing and just looking, the bargained for exchange

Have you ever been checking your email and seen one of the ads on the side? Of course you have, they are endless and relentless. Have you ever clicked on one? I have. Whether or not you intend to, it carries you away to a whole other world. At first it is clear they are asking us to look at their product or service because they want to sell us something. Second we click on the ad because we are asking them to give us the product or service, maybe even free ;-). 90% of those visits result in no transaction. We do not spend but a second to see and they do not sell but get our click which means some money. The information gathered from you by your visit is extremely valuable. But that is not a bargained for exchange and perhaps should be illegal.

Where two roads meet there is a convergence of desire from both

The deal does not work because neither party is sincere about wanting what the other party offers, and neither party is sincere about what they offer.

In law there is a term, “meeting of the minds”. This is essential for any valid contract. It means what it says, the parties have communicated and have agreed to the terms of an arrangement and promise to stick to that arrangement.

This road had real Road Houses, little pullouts for spring water. It originally was a place where a covered wagon would hitch up to a twelve head team of oxen.

This road began when an oxen was still more reliable than a vehicle. It was a supply route between Yuma and San Diego. About 15 miles west I found relics of a car with wooden wheels.

No matter how smart we get, a relationship is still based on the mutual interests of the parties.

When we pray for something I think we need to stay open to communication until God and us have a meeting of the minds. And we have a mediator to keep us on track, and help guide us for what we really want/need from God.

"Most assuredly, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in My name He will give you. Until now you have asked nothing in My name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy will be made full."
John 16:23b, 24.

A really important aspect of this is the God already knows before we ask. He already knows what He will do for us. So while we pray for God to hear us and to honor Him, He really has us praying to get our own hearts and minds straight as to what we really need. But I use the scripture to show, that no matter what God knows, until you express, you do not know.

In the past when you reached this point the oxen were let loose and an agreement to get you to the summit was fulfilled,

Make agreements, stick by them, the greatest honor we can give our creator is our own honor.

Grocery Store check out

I just stand there and watch and see so many people pay more than what the labeled, or special price is. They are not getting what they think they are paying for at the time. It is like the worlds most horrendous, bait and switch tactic ever.

But here is what is cool. The store knows that if you question or correct, that it will take time, and everyone in line will be pissed off at you, they use social pressure to gain your overlooking of the robbery.

Good point. We may click the ads out of curiosity, but when we make requests to God, we should be sincere. His promises to supply our needs are honest and we should expect Him to honor His word.

We should be very sincere with our requests. You are right. And the first step is to really think about our requests and God. Just like or more so than we would when making a large purchase.

He does already know what is in our mind, and yet as you say, prayer is more about aligning our heart with His will than anything else. In sincere prayer we find out who we really are and who He really is.

I appreciate that you mentioned Honor at the end of the hub. For several generation honor has become less and less important to the detriment of each of us and to the weakening of our society, Sharing.

It is an uplifting thought that we can get closer, just by praying. I suppose it is a truth among people also, that when we put aside ourself we can get closer to another.
