Mobile tracking has to be one of the greatest features of the modern day cell phone.  Since almost all cell phones are equipped with GPS receivers these days, mobile tracking can be accomplished quite easily.

There are several ways to go about mobile tracking but today will be talking about one particular cell phone tracker called Find My iPhone.  Find My iPhone is an application that can be used on either the iPhone, iPad, or even the iPod Touch to locate them in the event that they're lost are stolen.

Every year, tens of thousands of mobile devices are lost or stolen.  Unfortunately few of them are ever recovered and in many cases people keep very sensitive personal information like their bank account information and Social Security numbers on their mobile device.  This can be a nightmare for the person who looses the device and opens them up to a myriad of identity theft problems.

Sometimes we simply misplace out mobile device in our home, office, or hotel room.  With Find My iPhone you can instantly locate your mobile device with this amazing mobile tracking application.

Setting Up Find My iPhone Mobile Tracking

In order to be able to use the Find My iPhone for mobile tracking, you first need to sign up for a MobileMe subscription. You can get a free 60 day trial of MobileMe at If after your 60 days are up, you decide you want to stay with the service, it will cost you $99 for a one year subscription.

When you sign up for the 60 day trial of MobileMe you will get a password and information about the program. One of the cool features of MobileMe is that it automatically syncs all of your Apple devices wirelessly. If you update a phone number, address, or email on your Mac book, and you are a subscriber of MobileMe, the service uses what is called push technology that automatically sends that updated information to your iPhone, iPad, or iPot Touch. This is a pretty cool way to keep all your mobile devices up to date with your latest contact information.

Update: Find My iPhone is now free to use. All you need to do is sign up for a free iCloud account through Apple and you can use the app without spending a dime!

Using Find My iPhone Mobile Tracking Service

When you sign up for MobileMe for mobile tracking you will enter in the serial numbers of your Apple mobile devices so that the service knows that they belong to you and this will attach them to your MobileMe account.

There are lots of cool ways that you can use Find My iPhone once you have things set up. If you misplace your iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch, you can log onto MobileMe from a computer or another Apple mobile device and instantly see the location of your mobile device on a map that is on the screen.

If you see that your cell phone is at your office, you can relax and know that you simply left in the office and you can pick it up the next day.

Sometimes just seeing the location of your phone on a map isn't going to help you much if you know you lost your phone in the house or at the office or in a hotel room. I can't tell you the number of times I've lost my cell phone in couch cushions or under pillows in my house. Sometimes I spend hours upon hours searching for the darn thing when I know it's in the house. The developers of the Find My iPhone mobile tracking software thought of that when they designed the system and they built some really cool features into it to make the service even better.

You can log onto MobileMe and send a message to your mobile device instructing it to play a loud sound. Even if your mobile device is set to silent mode or has the volume turned down very low, this Find My iPhone feature will force your mobile device to play a sound at the maximum volume for two whole minutes. Then all you have to do is walk around the house and listen for it. I wish there was a way to do this with the remote control for the television. We must lose the TV remote control several times a day.

Find My Iphone Mobile Tracking Security Features

There are some really cool security features built into the Find My iPhone mobile tracking application. One of the biggest worries that people have is that they they may lose or misplace their cell phone or other mobile device and somebody will find it and starts snooping through it or start using it as if it's their own.

With the Find My iPhone application installed on your mobile device, you can log onto MobileMe, enter your password and send a security code to lock the mobile device preventing unauthorized use of your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. This will keep nosy people from snooping through your private information or using your mobile device as their own. If you're device was stolen, this will effectively lock the thief out of the device, preventing them access and device will be basically useless to them. This won't help you recover it but at least you will have the peace of mind of knowing that they cannot ever use it.

Another security feature built into the Find My iPhone mobile tracking cell phone locator app is that it allows you to remotely delete all of your sensitve private data. If you don't think you're going to be able to recover the mobile device, this is a really good idea since people often keep very sensitive personal information in their mobile devices like credit card numbers, bank account information, and passwords. With one click of a button from the MobileMe website, you can wipe the mobile device clean of all of your personal information.

These security features enable you to rest easy knowing that your personal information cannot be used against you. No one likes to have something stolen from them whether it's an object or personal information. It's nice knowing that if you ever happen to misplace your Apple mobile device, you can quickly and effectively protect this information and prevent the device from being used by an unauthorized user.
