Mophie Case Review

Updated on September 24, 2015

Review of Mophie Helium Battery Case

When I was purchasing my new phone I wanted to buy another iPhone. I was used the ios and didn't have any major problems with the iPhone 4 I was retiring. The only drawback I saw was the limited battery life. After a little internet research I decided to purchase a battery case to extend the battery life of the phone. The Mophie brand appealed to me because it didn't seem too bulky and had a nice look to it. There were several different versions available, the 1500 mAh Juice Pack Helium, the 1700 mAh Juice Pack Air, the 2100 mAh Juice Pack Plus and the 1700 mAh Space Pack which also has file storage options. Ultimately I chose the Juice Pack Helium because it was the thinnest case they offered and it was the least expensive.

At 1500 mAh the Juice Pack Helium is claimed to hold enough charge to get your phone from dead to 80% charged. I don't quite get to 80% from the case, but fairly close, in the 70-75% range which isn't bad.

The installation of the case is very easy. It's in two parts that slide down over the top of the phone and up over the bottom and click together. The case uses a micro usb plug which I like more than the iPhone specific plug as someone will usually have one if you need it. One drawback to the case is regarding the headphone plug. The case is thick where the headphone jack is which makes it difficult to plug headphones into it. I can manage to get a straight plug earphone in but it's impossible to plug in one with an angled plug. The case does come with an extension piece for this purpose which does work well, that is if you remember to take it.

There's a button on the case which lights up LED's to show you the case's level of charge. I have found that the case will light up all four LED's before it is completely charged. I usually try to leave it plugged in a while after all LED's light up to make sure it's fully charged.

There's also a button to slide the case in and out of charge mode. The manual says to leave it off while charging and regular use and only slide it on when your phone battery needs a boost.

The case offers great protection. I've dropped it a thousand times over the last year and haven't had any damage to the phone itself and only some minor scratches to the case.

All in all I am happy with the Mophie Helium case. I will definitely buy another when I upgrade my phone.
