Online Creative Writing, Best SEO And Back Linking Information

Updated on January 24, 2012

So, you produce online creative writing? But how do you properly SEO this? Search engine optimization is particularly difficult when you have a story about a red bus, for example. How do you create back linking strategies for your poems and stories?

We have already looked at techniques in previous articles in this series, but now want to concentrate on building stronger scaffolding for our online creative writing content.

As we have already done our keyword research, optimized our web pages and created the necessary tags telling search engines what our content consists of, we now have to put in place a firm structure to hold our content and maximise the possibility of readers visiting our web pages.

We can do this by creating back links and using RSS Feeds.

I would highly recommend this book mainly because it provides tips for SEO, marketing ideas and free promotional advice for your creative writing. Oh, it also tells you how to write! hehehe

Backlinking In Moderation - Be Selective!

Of course, this used to be the case before Google updates. Back linking to sites like She Told Me and Redgage were helpful and still can be - in moderation! The idea is to be selective and have an active presence on those sites that you choose to use to promote.

The question is, how can we expand upon this and strengthen our Internet presence?

As we all know the hardest content to get read is that of online creative writing in the form of stories, poems and prose. There are a couple of additional things we can do to help get our work out there!

-* -*--* -*--* -*--* -*--* -*--* -*--* -*--* -*--* -*--* -*--* -*--* -*--* -*--* -*--* -*--* -*--* -*--*

How To SEO A-Store

My A-Store is cram-packed full of great specialist information and products especially picked and recommended by me to you!

Why not treat yourself to a better SEO understanding by clicking:

Back Linking, Social Networking, and Turning Your Stories & Poems Into Articles!

What you need to consider is what is going to be your moderated backlinking strategy? Remember you need to be actively involved in good quality social networking sites. Facebook, Twitter and Myspace are great examples of these and it is worth building up a solid base of followers on these.

In conjunction with establishing a great social networking strategy, you need to create an article around your story. I will give you and example...

In my Hunted Fox story, I created an introduction that told Google that the content was about a story... a bullying story. This was described, not only in the content, but in the URL (the unique website address: At the end of the story, I wrote a closing paragraph with similar descriptions that referred to the content and followed through this with appropriate tags (e.g. a short story, bullying, victim harassement etc).

Now, although this was a piece of creative writing, there is an element of article about this story, ensuring Google gets the message what this is all about!

Create Articles

What more can you do?

Now, assuming you have a few stories or poems on your website, you could try turning your stories and poems into articles!

How would you do this? By taken half a dozen and creating a teaser in each one and inserting a link to the the original creative content. By making this a recommendation and posting to good PR article sites, you create more back links and traffic. Sites like Hubpages is a great place to start. Why not Join Hubpages Here and make money online too?!

The following picture shows you what I have done with my online creative writing stories and poems. Take a look!

Turn Your Online Creative Writing Into Articles

So now you have opened your options and turned your online creative writing into articles, you can then post them on the sites that you have the greatest activity on.

  • TIP: Add other great stories and poems into your articles - this tells Google that you are not self promoting because you are adding others into the mix!

On top of this, you will be able to post your articles, containing your's and other's original creative content to social networking sites like Twitter, Myspace and Blogger. A neat trick eh?

-* -*--* -*--* -*--* -*--* -*--* -*--* -*--* -*--* -*--* -*--* -*--* -*--* -*--* -*--* -*--* -*--* -*--*

RSS Feeds - What Are They And How Can You Make Use Of Them?

Another easy tip to back linking is by using RSS feeds. This stands for Really Simple Syndication and can be thought of as a url that is sensitive to change. Essentially, these feeds update themselves as and when a post is made. For this reason, it is particularly good for blog sites like Blogger and Myspace, for example.

If you open an account with Blogger, you can post updates and links to new online creative writing content for an instant update.

Take the RSS feed and post it on a list of aggregator sites - but don't go too mad with this, just a few selective ones will do! As an example of aggregator sites, the Mark Knowles article, contains a resourceful list. You can view this by scrolling down and clicking the link.

On Page Optimisation - Content Is King!

In order to get a decent readership, you need to ensure that your content is king and be aware of your on page optimisation techniques. These are just as important as the points already mentioned.

  • You can learn more about on page optimization and content by clicking on the links at the base of this.article.

Google Rewards Quality Content And People Power

Google rewards writers with good page rankings for quality content that is easy on the eye and I can not emphasise how important these strategies are!

You also need to be aware that Google loves the people vote, so 'thumbs up', 'likes' to facebook and 'share' - your creative writing to friends are all good for page ranking.

Be grateful to your readers and ask them to share your work!

I'm very lazy where backlinking is concerned, but your Hub here has given me some new ideas.

A great series, Shazwellyn, and very useful resource. I've bookmarked all three Hubs, as I will need to refer to them often.

      Thank you for this!

      All the best, Camlo

Hi Rebecca - Redgage has been having a complete upgrade. I think they have been updating their servers trying to keep up with Google's 'lets get quicker' campaign - if you know what I mean?!

The content needs a little push, not a keep spam! Even this should be original!!!

      Thanks for visiting :)

K9 - this is because you learn best through experience. The 60dc is as near as possible to experiential learning one can get when considering the means of the Internet. You are an experiential learner!

Whenever learning opportunities present themselves - try and do it with a hand's on approach - you, personally, will gain more from this form of learning than any other, my friend :)

Wendy Krick - Thank you. Learning is about finding ways to help understanding - people learn in various ways - symbolic representation (pictorial, words), audio, touch (physical and experiential) and visual (video). I try and pitch it at all angles. I am glad that one, or all, of these techniques have helped. Well done and keep it up!

Super good SEO information. You teach in a very clear and visual manner that works for me. I am reading a book on the subject and as I do, I find that reading the 60dc2 team hubs teaches me far more clearily and often has better information within the selected hubs. I am glad to have found the team and your work!

      Up and a-twittering-I-wil-go!
