Online Predator

Updated on January 11, 2011

Online predator. The two words send a chill down my spine when i think of what these "predators" do. Charm and sweet talk their victims, lure them away once they have gained their trust, rape or kill their victims. It's like a vicious circle of life; only a more unnatural one.

When i think predator, i see a lion or a tiger silently approaching its prey and then leaping on it, playing with it until it kills it. While this seems cruel, this is a way of life. Now humans have begun a new game. Like the wild cat, man has become a predator. Not yet a public predator but an online stalker waiting for a victim to pounce on.

Predators are quite real and seriously dangerous. Women that have been interviewed by Dr Phill and other talk show hosts tell the world how a predator lured them; and in most cases, a young woman was raped by her stalker and exposed to the cruel truth: online predators are as real as we breathe.

How Would I Know If I Find One?

Would you like to know how an online predator works? Okay i'll tell you. An online predator takes a captivating chatname to conceal his identity and enters a chat room. He, or even she, likes to enter a room where there are teens especially. After observing the conversation for a while, the predator targets a naive victim. One who can be easily swayed. The predator makes this victim feel wanted, loved and most of all, understood. Once the predator has gained this person's trust, they move in for the kill. The predator will ask to meet this person and with some luck, this cloud-minded victim is so obsessed with this "understanding" predator that they agree to meet them. Once the predator has you in person, what he does next is to his desire. He may rape you, torture you, abuse you in many forms or even be as perverse as to kill you.

How do i know this about a predator? Because i've had friends caught in that trap. Family caught in the predator's snare. It's no laughing matter. In society, there are sick minded people who prey on young, innocent victims and destroy their lives. One cannot begin to understand the process a victim endures while recovering from an attack. It does great psychological damage and the victims feel vulnerable.

This could happen to anyone. Things to remember when chatting in a chat room:

  • Don't give out personal details that can identify you.
  • Don't trust everyone you meet. Things may not be as they seem.
  • Report any suspicious people to staff or admin of the site.
  • Lastly, be safe and enjoy a chat.

After reading this, it reminded me of when I would go onto AOL chatrooms and talk to random people at the ages of 11, 12, or 13. I think about it and shudder, thinking how CLOSE I came to these kinds of people. Thanks for the Hub.

Good sound advice. Predators are scary people and I agree when in a chat room you have to be very careful.

CiscoPixie, I wrote a poem about an online stalker that had my friend convinced he was moving here and marrying her. He mostly just wanted to mess with her heart and mind. Never been in a chat room... rightfully afraid of them I guess.
