PC buying guide - Dec 2010

Here is the 2nd edition of my PC buying guides. Lets hope I help you get the best deal this Christmas.Here I have chosen components that are easily available and that are VFM. I have split the guide up based on different price brackets, so it will be easy for you to choose according to your budget. Most people buy desktops that are at the range of around Rs20,000 to Rs40,000, hence I will start off with those builds.

Sub Rs20,000 / $400 PC

Suggested PC configuration for this price range:

Processor: AMD Athlon II X2 250 (Dual Core,3.00GHz) - Rs2700
Motherboard: Asus M4A78LT-M LE (780L,SB710,DDR3) - Rs2700
RAM/Memory: 2GB Kingston/Corsair/Gskill DDR3 1333MHz - Rs1200
HDD :500GB Seagate/WD HDD - Rs1700
K&M : Logitech Combo - Rs500
Cabinet: Basic iBall cabby w/ PSU - Rs1500
Monitor: Viewsonic 19" LCD - Rs5600
UPS: APC 600VA UPS - Rs2500

Optional Upgrades :
FSP Saga II 350W PSU - Rs1500 - A must if you are upgrading to a discrete graphics card in the near future, even otherwise, its a good buy,get it if you can afford.

This computer is great for those who need a basic setup for all their multimedia needs. You can easily watch HD content without any issues. Very basic gaming can also be done as the IGP on this motherboard is not too shabby, far better than Intel's solutions.

Optional Upgrades :
AMD Phenom II X2 555BE - One of the fastest dual core processors around, unlockable to a Quad, you have a good chance of unlocking it into a quad, the mobo supports ACC,so its possible. So, if you are feeling lucky,go for it. Else, since its a BE, it will be fairly easy to overclock too.

Usage :
As the title suggests, its an entry level gaming machine. But don't get fooled, you can easily play almost all games at maximum resolution on that PC with ease and guarantee you a nice gaming experience.
