Pinterest for the common man/woman

Updated on February 1, 2012

Pinterest on YouTube

What is pinterest.com?

I'll tell you what, I'm an avid Facebooker. (Yes I made that up) I'm on Facebook a million hours a day. I know the ins and outs and the common trends of Facebook. Guess you can say I'm a little addicted. So if anything new comes along (for example- a website or game) I know about it first hand. So when this Pinterest thing came about and I started getting "invites" for it, (Yes you have to be invited to join) needless to say I did a quick run through. Well I wasn't sold on the idea. I took a look around and decided that it wasn't going to be for me. Now in all honestly, I barely glanced at the web site "Pinterest" at first because it told me that I was going to have to update to the new Facebook "timeline" that everyone is trying to avoid right now. (Me as well) One day, a week or so later, I made the mistake of updating my status on Facebook asking this simple question :

"What the heck is Pineterest? or however it's spelled?"

(Erased Names and anything else that could lead back to people)

Well as you can see, I think people thought I was strange for not knowing what "Pinterest" was. So I broke down and I joined. Needless to say, I got that dang timeline I was NOT wanting. But I've grown addicted SO far. So for those of you that have no idea what Pinterest is, I'll break it down simple like :)

Pinterest is......

Pinterest put lightly : An online "Pin Board" that helps you do things like :

  • Plan a wedding
  • Plan a birthday
  • Store favorite recipes
  • Get unique design ideas
  • See funny quotes
  • Scrap booking ideas

Needless to say, if it's found on the web, you can find it on Pinterest.

It's a way to organize, create and share beautiful things all in one place. Like I stated before "a virtual pin board" You can also follow others, re-pin their pins etc...

Let me show you some examples :

Want to decorate?

Say you wanna decorate your home. Well instead of carrying around that big over stuffed 3-ring-binder, you can use Pinterest to "pin" it for you all in one easy online accessible spot. And they have all kinds of patterns, furniture, and other accessories to help you get ideas for your redecorating or purchase, or just plain ideas to spruce up your existing space.

Pinterest Event Planning (visual view)

Need to plan an event?

Well you have a wedding, birthday, social event, school outing???? Any event can be "pinned" on Pinterest so that you have access to it later. You can even comment on these "pins" or someone else can comment on them as well. It's also an easy and effective way to get other peoples opinions.

For example : You have a wedding coming up. You have all the details "pinned" out on Pinterest. Want an opinion on your wedding cake? Tell your mom to go to the Pinterest website, Look you up and she can leave you a comment about it. It's that simple.

Food and Recipe Pins

Are you getting it?

Do you understand the "hype" around Pinterest? I know I have to admit, I took a couple of days just sitting there figuring out on my own what it was. (as you can tell from above none of the people I asked told me anything about it, other than it is "addicting")

The Pinterest mission is plain and simple:

Pinterest feels that everyone in the world should be able to connect and share everything that they find interesting. From the favorite book, to the outdated movie, to a classic car to a piece of art.

Pinterest has place this all at your finger tips. So go and share and get addicted to "pinning" and finding new and intersting things!

If there are any questions that I can answer for you feel free to leave a comment and I'll get right back with ya!

Pinterest is currently making news. In fact, this site has been rated amongst the top 10 social network site. I also heard that it's becoming one of the fastest growing sites. One good thing I have heard about Pinterest, is that you don't have to keep bookmarking pages after pages with Pinterest, because everything is laid out on a single page -- all you have to do is just pin! Thanks for all the other information.

If you watch the short video I posted up at the top it will tell you how to add them :) It's in the top right corner when you log into Pinterest. It is the "add" button :)

I am trying to figure out how to "pin" my own pics on Pinterest. I'm brand new to it myself so I don't even know if it is possible. Any advice?
