What is Prince2 - Prince2 Definition

PRojects IN Controlled Environment or Prince2 is a process based methodology for effective Project Management. It is widely accepted project management certification especially in UK, Europe and Australia. It is slowly and steadily catching up in Asia and USA as well.

Who should do Prince2 training and certification?

Prince2 is ideal for Project Managers and Team leads who want to do effective management of any kind of project. Prince2 can be used in any scale of project with variable complexity. It is also ideal for project leads who want to move up to the project manager's role. Prince2 method can be applied to any kind of industry like IT, manufacturing, banking etc. It can be tailored according to project complexity and requirement.

Prince2 Certification Levels:

  • Prince2 Foundation: This level is for those who want to understand the basic terminologies of Prince2 and learn basics of Prince2 managed projects. This is ideal for Team manages and team members who do not need to run a Prince2 projects but normally work in a Prince2 managed projects.

  • Prince2 Practitioner: This level is for the project managers who are or going to manage a project. It is important for the project managers to complete practitioner level as this level is based on the practical implementation of Prince2 principles, themes and process.

Prince2 Training Details:

Normally people go for Prince2 training via a APMG accredited Training academies (ATAs), although you can do it independently as well. If you go through ATA's, then training duration is normally 5 days. Below is a typical training schedule for prince 2 training.

  • Day 1: Introduction to prince 2, Prince2 principles, Prince2 themes, Overview of Prince2 processes.
  • Day 2: Prince2 processes in details, dummy foundation exams
  • Day 3: Recap of last 2 days, Prince2 Foundation exam
  • Day 4: How to implement Prince2 applications in projects, Dummy Prince2 Practitioner exam
  • Day 5: Prince2 Practitioner exam

There are 2 ways in which this training is normally scheduled. One is 5 days at a stretch (Monday to Friday). Second is weekend training where Weekend 1 is for Foundation training (Friday-Saturday-Sunday) and then you come back next weekend (Saturday-Sunday) for Practitioner exam.
