Quick Steps to Install Oracle 10g Express Edition on Windows 32 bit or 64 bit

Oracle 10g Database Express Edition is a free database product from Oracle. This edition of Database consumes less memory, less space and less processor speed than other versions of the product. It's also simpler and easier to install. This page explains the installation process for Oracle 10g Database Express Edition step-by-step. The process is the same for Windows XP, 7, or 8, in 32-bit or 64-bit versions.

1: Download .exe File

Download Oracle 10g Express Edition from Oracle's official site ( After completing downloading, you will find a file named Oracle 10g XE.exe.

2. Open .exe File

Double click on the file Oracle 10g XE.exe and the InstallShield Wizard window will appear. You will have to wait a while for it to be ready to continue.

3. InstallShield Wizard

When a window called "Oracle Database 10g Express Edition - Install Wizard" appears, click on the Next button.

4. Accept License Agreement

Accept the license agreement by clicking on the radio button labeled "I accept the terms in the license agreement." Click on the Next button.

5. Choose Destination

In this step, you have to choose the destination location for Oracle Database Express. If your Windows XP or other Windows is installed on the C drive, the default database install location will be C:\oracleexe\. Otherwise, Database will be installed in Windows's installed location. If you want to install it somewhere else, click on Browse and choose your destination. After choosing the destination, click on Next.

6. Choose Password

You have to specify a password for Database. Choose a password and type it in the Enter Password field, and re-type the same password into the Confirm Password field. Remember, this password will be used for SYS and SYSTEM database accounts. Now, click on the Next button to go further.

7. Review Installation Settings

In this step, you review settings before proceeding with the installation. Here, you will find the summary information: the Database destination folder, port for Oracle Database Listener, and the port for HTTP Listener. Click on Install to start installing the database.


8. Wait for Installation

After completing Step 7, you have to wait some time to complete the installation, which varies depending on your memory and processor. When InstallShield Wizard completes the installation, click on the Finish button to complete installation.
