Dell Vostro V130 Laptop Review

Updated on January 30, 2015

Dell has been a leading champion since years in producing efficient and fast business machines. However, most of the designs and laptop series produced by DELL have been quite monotonous so far. Now, with its Vostro V130, Dell has attempted to get rid of its typical business like image and I'd love to say that they have rather succeeded quite well in doing that. Dell Vostro V130 guarantees that style and oomph factor that we'd been demanding from DELL laptops since quite a time.

So, let us quickly get to the review of Dell Vostro V130.

Pros of Dell Vostro V130:

1) The Vostro V130 laptop comes in a strong aluminum packaging, which is sleek (16.5 mm) and around 1.59 KGs in weight. It has a 6 cell battery and it runs on Intel's Core i5 processor, which is quite powerful. This Core i5 processor basically runs on ultra low voltage unit (ULV) typically designed for such slim laptops.

2) You get an option to choose from the two vibrant colors - silver or red, whichever suits your personality and needs.

3) Vostro V130 comes with an anti-glare LCD. The matte-finish screen in itself stands out different amongst the various glossy reflective screens available in the market. The clarity is excellent, sharp and bright from various angles.

4) The laptop is equipped with Wi-Fi b/g/n and Bluetooth 3.0 connectivity options.

5) The additional accessories and attachments include - a 2 Mega Pixel webcam, a mic, 2 USB ports, VGA out, HDMI out, Ethernet, one combo USB + eSata port and a card reader.

6) Even though the laptop doesn't have any separate graphics card, the in-built Intel HD graphics works excellently in running all Windows 7 Aero effects, playing HD video files and in channelizing the entire HD video to an external screen using HDMI.

7) Apparently, Vostro V130 is amongst the first ever laptops to feature the Intel's Hyperbaric Cooling system. The cooling system design of Vostro V130 works quite differently when compared to the other regular laptops. Instead of pushing hot air out, the Intel's Hyperbaric Cooling system technology in this laptop draws cool air in and pours it over the heated components of the laptop. This has attributed a lot in making the system slimmer and cooler. Also, you don't have to be annoyed by the sound of the fan at all.

8) Despite being slim and light-weight, the laptop is quite sturdy. You get a full sized keyboard that has keys which are comfortable to use, and you can use it for hours, without getting tired of typing.

Cons of Dell Vostro V130:

1) The ergonomics and design of this slim V130 have placed all of its ports except the headphone port and card reader at the back, which may cause some inconvenience to the people who are regular users of USB devices or often connect their laptops to external devices.

2) Low Battery life: The battery can not be removed and as far as its usage is concerned; it gives just 1.5 hours activity in worst case scenario with Wi-Fi connection and maximum software and hardware utilization, even when fully charged. With just regular usage, you can expect at the most 2.5-3 hours of battery life, that too when your screen brightness has been set to optimized level. So, if you are the one who spends a lot of time on roads and want to buy a laptop for that purpose, then this one may not be for you.

Overall verdict: Dell Vostro V130 is a perfect example of how business laptops have evolved. It is compact, stylish, light weight and apt for professionals and businessmen. This laptop is perfect for people who stay in office and want to flaunt their style in the way they work. It can be perfect for meetings and other business activities.

Though, for better battery life and increased performance, I'd recommend you to check Lenovo Ideapad series, which are much efficient and have extended battery lives.
