Updated on November 21, 2018

How to choose the right one

In this article, I have included the best headphones under $50. This is a practical and simple guide that will help you decide which is the right over ear headphone for your needs. During the recent years the need for high quality audio receivers or speakers has drastically increased. The market is full of headphones, in ear headphones etc. Their quality is considerably high and the price too.

I did not make the research only based on the "price criteria". But, there have been included certain opinions and reviews made by costumers whom actually used each product. The main criteria are the sound quality. Most of the headphones displayed below have >40mm dynamic drivers. These top products can deliver a high performance of bass, mids and highs.

Comfort, durability and design are the other three main components that every headphone must have. For the price they have a certain degree of comfort, keeping in mind that there are other more expensive ones. These over ear headphones have been carefully selected to fit comfortably in your ears. They do not hurt your ears even after long session of listening to music.

Skullcandy Hesh 2 Elephant wired headphone

The new Skullcandy Hesh 2 Elephant is the right choice for all the rebellious music fans. This is a fantastic over ear headphone for high quality music lovers. Fantastic design and comfort combined with high sound quality specs makes the Hesh 2 irresistible. And the price is absolutely affordable. They can be yours on relatively decent price of $41.99.

I strongly recommend them not only for their low price but even for the sound quality. Indeed they deliver a fantastic sound experience. Mostly the main issue with earphones or speakers is the high pitch notes while listening to music. With this headphone you will not have anything to worry about, it delivers natural vocals and strong bass.

Comfort is another strong point of the Skullcandy Hesh 2 Elephant. With a particular soft leather ear pillows they will fit great in your ears. No more ears hurting from long sessions of listening to your favorite music. Also the skull theme lifts the rebellious spirit of the music to a higher level.

Monoprice Hi-Fi Light Weight over the ear headphone

Monoprice Hi-Fi over ear headphones is the perfect choice for all the portable devices. This means that you can use them easily with your laptop, smartphone and other portable music players without installing any additional software.

Although I have to mention that the cord is a little bit short, around 47" specifically designed for portable music players. But this issue is expected with a low price of only $27.91.

The noise cancelling feature delivers a great sound experience directly to the ear. So you won't be disturbed by outside noises, which are very common in crowded cities. The solid base and high pitch notes are very clear and they won't hurt your ear while listening.

They are comfortable to wear and to use with very soft padding. The monoprice headphones are lightweight with only 0.5 ounces of weight. It means that the sudden movements of the head won't make them fall. Also they are one inch vertically adjustable over ear headphones.

Bluedio H+(Turbine) bluetooth stereo

So far the Bluedio H+(Turbine) bluetooth stereo over the ear headphones are the most equipped ones. With a large 57 mm dynamic driver, a built-in microphone, Micro-SD card and radio they cost $42.99. The 4.1 operating system technology used to build the Bluedio enables you to connect multiple devices at the same time. They also have active noise cancellation which makes possible a comfortable music experience without being disturbed. You can listen to almost any kind of music with these wonderful pair of headset.

You can listen to over 40 hours of music, 45 hours of talk time and more than 1625 hours of stand-by mode. The recharging time is incredibly fast in fact it takes only two hours to recharge. But, it may increase to three or four hours over time.

Bluedio H+ is absolutely comfortable and innovative design makes it a gorgeous headset. The earmuffs or earpads are designed to perfectly fit your ear without causing any damage or aching sores. They are designed to simulate the human skin texture with a special artificial protein leather. Despite durability and comfort you can choose from four different colors, black, blue, red and white. In my opinion the blue and black ones look very classy.

Over ear headphone equalizer and amplifier.

A must have addition to you headphone

This is a small, yet very powerful subwoofer. This amazing sound processor will tremendously change the way you listen to music. Your music tracks have never had better bass and high pitches with this particular addition. You can add the ZO 2 to all of your existing sound hardwares, and not change your setups.

This sound device enhancer gives you the liberty not only to add the reward to your ears but even to your wallet. Thus, you will not take the most expensive road to upgrade your headphones, computer speakers, car stereo, gaming gears etc. The Digizoid ZO2 has a wonderful sound equalizer, which permits high sound balance.

Connect this device between any source and it will give your audio a full, rich sound of a suwoofered system. It can be successfully used as a mini amp for driving earbuds, from a line out source such as smartphones, touch pads, computers or even TVs. With more than 30 different contour profiles this device you the liberty of change. From the low-rumbling bass for movies, subwoofer thumb for music and crystal clear vocals.

Pioner Steez 808

The Pioner Steez 808 Dj - Style over the ear headphones are a foldable type of headset which cost $28.95 if ordered online. They are easy to carry around because they are very compact. I would recommend these headphones for travel compared to other more expensive ones. The sound quality is outstanding. With a 40 mm dual driver dynamic range it makes listening to music very enjoyable.

It produces a good base in low frequency for anyone who is into rap or Dupstep. The bass of this piece of portable audio induces is really powerful, so you can listen to every single detail. Some of the details you do not simply hear with other types of low - end headphones. The high frequency is pretty decent too. It has a maximum input of 1,000 mW and a sensitivity of 104dB/mW. The first professional DJ - brand will make you get closer to your music with inspired dance - tuning.

The design is absolutely fantastic making them very good looking. The package includes two Dj - style cables and it has a jack at both ends. So it can be easily replaced. Overall I can say that they are a nice pair of low budget type. But, they are not the type of headphones for all-day, all-in music fans. The Dj word might fool you but, you must know that proper Dj headphones are way more expensive than $50.

JVC High Quality Xtreme Xplosvs Headphones

The JVC brand, which till now has produced an absolutely outstanding line of headsets, now it has put in the market the new Xtreme Xplosvs. These are the type of portable headphones that can push some deep bass and they cost around $44. With their 50 mm dynamic driver they will give you a fabulous overall sound experience.

But, do not expect too much from them because, they are not a high level type of audio producing gadget. Meaning that the quality of the the mid's and high's isn't top quality. But, you can easily customize your equalizer so you will experience a full range of frequencies. They have the capability of producing some great bass too. And you can easily hear music without being disturbed. Because, JVC has done a fantastic work regarding the noise cancelling feature.

The design is very catchy, making them very good looking and fashionable. It is impossible not to be noticed with a pair of JVC Xtreme Xplosvs on your head. If you like jogging or running the JVC are the right ones for you. If the weight is a problem you must know that the head strap is memory foam and it distributes the weight evenly. This way they will not bounce away. The same comfortable memory foam seems to have been applied to the ear cushions.

Sony MDR-ZX300/WQ ZX Series stereo headphones

Sony MDR-ZX are a high quality stereo headphones that anyone with a tight budget can afford. They are absolutely more than worth the price of $22.99. They deliver a splendid and clear sound experience with the amazing sony looks and design. After all Sony is one of the most trustworthy brands on the electronics market.

You can listen to any kind of music with the Sony MDR's. From Hip-Hop, Reggae, Rock to even classic and you will not hear any muddiness in the sound whatsoever. These headphones have very efficient neodymium drivers that produce clear low-end and mid-range sounds. More precisely the driver unit is Supra-aural with a dynamic range of 30 mm and a dome type CCAW voice coil. The most amazing thing is that you can connect them to a wide range of devices like mp3 music players, smartphones, touch pads or computers.

The Sony MDR come only in one primal color, which is white. But, the color is not quite an issue at all. If you take a look the overall design you will judge that they seem to be even better than other more expensive stereo headsets or earbuds. It is equipped with a rugged Y-type design for a tangle free cord experience. Sony has manufactured a very comfortable type of headphones. Regarding comfort they offer a special pressure relieving urethane cushioned earpads makes them very comfortable on your ears.

Audio-Technica ATH-M10 Professional Studio Monitor headphones

The Audio-Technica ATH-M10 is the ideal type of headphones for professional mixing and monitoring. With an affordable price of $29.99 they deliver an exceptional sound clarity with a natural frequency response of 30 - 20,000 Hz. With 40 mm drivers, special audio cable connectors for dual sided straight 3 mm, stereo 3.5 mm and snap on 6,3 mm adapter.

These are probably the best and cheapest studio over ear headphones. You can clearly hear the highs and lows of each and every musical instrument of the music tracks. Regardless of their sound quality and outside noise canceling quality, they might lack a little bit in manufacturing quality. They feel somehow like cheap plastic, but if you are low on budget and you are struggling for a pair of headphones. Well, these are the right type for you.

Nevertheless comfort is absolutely great, because the special closed-back padded circumeural ear cups provide undisputable noise isolation feature. This means that you can wear them for a very long time (maybe for hours) non-stop, and you will not hear any outside noise. Also they come with only one color which is black. The ATH M10 type is probably the last product that you might have thought of purchasing, but it it is clearly the best for its price.

Sennheiser HD201 Lightweight over ear binaural headphones

The Sennheiser HD201 is a low price alternative to high end studio headphone. They are particularly proven to have without any doubt a fantastic clarity of the sound. They are rugged, lightweight (just 5.8 ounces), extremely comfortable to wear with leatherette ear pads, have good attenuation and deliver very powerful bass. They are quite old fashioned and classy but they have proven over time their durability and quality over time.

Some of the features include closed dynamic hi-fi stereo in order to listen clearly to each and every sound. They are more like a bass-driven type, and you will be astounded by its astounding power. Their lightweight construction makes long DJ - sessions very comfortable. Even if you are not a music addicted, you are going to notice the difference of sound between the "Sennheiser HD201 and to any ordinary type of "cans". They are pretty very good for gaming too.

Also, these over ear headphones are one of the most comfortable ones. With a foam ear pad you will not feel any discomfort putting them in your ears. And, all you will clearly listen to your music tracks thanks to the noise cancelling feature. But, that is not all.

"The Sennheiser HD201 are in fact the most secure purchase that you will do. I am saying this because it comes with a two year full warranty by the manufacturer."

It's amazing how expensive headphones can be these days. We were trying on a pair of skull candy types and the sound quality was decent. As you post, the price was under $50 and that's pretty good for the money.
