Updated on October 8, 2011

Do 3D TVs Work? Try out this Samsung LCD.

3D TVs is the latest technology to have hit the television market. Thought it was only possible in movie theaters? Think again. You can now experience 3D movies in your own homes. This hub reviews the Samsung UN55D8000 55-Inch 1080p 240Hz 3D LED HDTV. We have a look at the technical specifications, pros, cons, and customer reviews of this great LED HDTV. Before we do so, let us have a quick review on the differences between LED, LCD, and Plasma TVs.

It is important to know the differences or else you may feel some regret over your new purchase. There are three primary differences between plasma vs lcd vs led TVs: size, speed, and light. The one which catches most customers off guard is the light factor. When you place a plasma TV in a bright environment, you will notice an effect called light glares. This occurs when light reflects off the television screen. This does not occur with LED or LCD TVs, hence why they are used in public areas like airports and bus terminals. That said, plasma TVs are better suited for fast motion pictures like sports and action movies. Some LCD and LED TVs are equipped with additional technologies that can reduce the effects of motion blur but they are still playing catch up over plasma TVs. Now let's move on to the actual review of the Samsung UN55D8000 55-Inch 1080p 240Hz 3D LED HDTV.

The Samsung UN55D8000 55-Inch 1080p 240Hz 3D LED HDTV comes with two pairs of 3D glasses. The question is, do they work? One customer commented that the 3D pictures were awesome on the 55 Inch TV. She could see every detail clearly and did not know it was possibly to watch such pictures outside of the movie theater. That said, she did comment that the quality of 3D pictures was dependent on the movie production company. For example, the 3D quality of Avatar was second-to-none, while the 3D quality of regular movies were more or less average (simply because they did not pay too attention towards its development).

SO what did customers have to say about the Samsung UN55D8000 55-Inch 1080p 240Hz 3D LED HDTV? Another customer commented that the picture quality was excellent and it was a very reasonable price, especially if purchased on Amazon. There were also a lot of different setting options, which helped with the viewer's preferences. On the downside, the audio was just adequate. If you want a better sound system then you may need to purchase an additional home theater system. Also, the customer felt the television manual was more or less useless. It only appears thick because it is in so many different languages.

So what do you think of the Samsung UN55D8000 55-Inch 1080p 240Hz 3D LED HDTV? Would you purchase one. If you already own one, would you recommend it to others?
