VoIP in a Globalized World

Today's business environment is very different from what it used to be. Employees in several countries with clients spread out all over the world require a communications network that is able to handle all of the demands of a globalized workplace. The traditional PSTN phone system while working pretty well for a localized business – even one that is spread across the country, is woefully inadequate when it comes to dealing with international calls. By hosting and maintaining the hardware yourself and merely obtaining an Internet Gateway service from an SIP trunking provider, or you can outsource the entire ownership and management of the VoIP infrastructure to a third-party via a hosted service. Both have their advantages and disadvantages, but lately due to advances in technology and competition, more and more businesses have been switching over to the latter.

This is especially true if you are a small or medium-sized business without the know-how or the resources to create a VoIP solution by yourself. To put this in perspective, most organizations have their own website. But they do not own their own server or even rent it directly. Rather, they rely upon a third-party web host to do all the dirty work for them. They don't have to worry about upgrades, maintenance, or patches.

The same is true for hosted VoIP. If you're an entrepreneur with only a small work staff, you will be able to focus entirely on your core business activities rather than wasting time and attention trying to figure out your VoIP installation.
