Sony Xperia XA Ultra: Power and Style in a Larger Size

Updated on February 17, 2017

Design and construction

Sony Xperia XA Ultra looks a lot like its little brother the Xperia XA, with the difference that here the display has a diagonal of six inches. With this in mind, you cannot expect a particularly compact phone and yet the device is significantly smaller than let say a classic 7-inch tablet and definitely looks more like a smartphone than a tablet. One of the top reason for this, are the barely noticeable side frames - exactly the same ones that we saw in the classical model Xperia XA. And unfortunately “Yes”, this again means that the Power key will not have a built-in fingerprint sensor. The display itself occupies the 76.6% of the entire front panel. The side frames of the display look even more unnoticeable by the fact that the glass screen is slightly curved at the ends.

While we're on this front side of the smartphone there is 16 megapixel front facing camera that clearly stands out.

Again from Sony we see the combination of a metal frame and matte plastic back that is not a fingerprint magnet. It is clean and pleasant to the touch, and at the back you will find only the rear 21.5-megapixel camera and its LED flash and a discreet Xperia logo.

Display

As it became clear the display is one of the main differences compared to other Xperia X models and in particular its diagonal of 6 inches. This display size has its pros and cons, so it makes no sense to discuss them again. The resolution of the screen is Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels). The pixel density equals to 367ppi, which will provide clear and detailed picture. Here again is the IPS matrix, so you can expect contrasting colors and great wide viewing angles.

Battery

Xperia XA Ultra has a battery capacity of 2700mAh, which is more than the classic Xperia XA, but on the other hand, here we have a large 6-inch display, so this battery seems smaller for a big phone like this.

Camera

The main camera on the Xperia XA is a 21.5-megapixel and has a LED flash, Sony Exmor RS sensor and f / 2.2 aperture. It is equipped with a hybrid auto focus, allowing you to capture moving objects and can also shoot video in Full HD resolution. There is also a physical camera button that can quickly launch the camera, and is perfect with focusing and taking pictures.

Productivity

Xperia XA Ultra uses MediaTek MT6755 Helio P10. This is a 64-bit processor and it is built on 28nm process technology. MediaTek promise up to 30% more energy efficiency than other chips using 28nm technology. Mobile processor works with eight Cortex-A53 cores running at a clock frequency of up to 2.0GHz. Helio P10 supports Full HD displays, and the technology MiraVision 2.0, UltraDimming and BluLight Defender. Here is the LTE Cat 6 connectivity that will bring high speed connection. The chip works with 21-megapixel cameras and enables shooting Full HD video. Video card is a Mali-T860, operating at a frequency of 700MHz. RAM amounts is 3GB.

The internal memory is 16GB, and o less than 7 GB are occupied by the operating system and additional files. Still available is a separate microSD card slot which supports up to 256GB which is more than enough space.
