If Mollom is unsure of the quality of a comment it will ask the person who left it to complete a captcha.

How Mollom Works

The purpose of Mollom's service is to detect and stop spam comments on websites. When a website using Mollom's spam-detection service receives a comment, it sends the comment to Mollom's server for analysis along with several information about the commenter including IP address and email address.

Based on several features in the text, Mollom then decides if the comment is spam or not and acts accordingly. All spam are blocked, non-spam are verified and displayed on the website. If Mollom is not sure whether the actual comment is spam or not, it will display a video as well as audio captcha for the commenter.

All comenters are warned that by submitting their comment they accept Mollom's Privacy Policy.

Is Mollom a trustworthy company?

Yes. The Mollom project was created and is maintained by Dries Buytaert, the founder and project leader of the Drupal content management system.

Just two MAJOR issues you left out of your "valuable avidce" to El Al's management: -the alliances which LY cannot join because of the arab boycott (that our government refuses to avcknowledge and assist) is putting LY at a great competitive disadvantage. -If LH or UA or AF , DL lose money on TLV route, they will not feel it in their balance sheet as it is minute. If LY loses money on TLV route, it can distroy it.

Hey Haunty, Still waiting for a proper fan mail. =:) Thanks for the article. Can I use Mollom on a regular business website? (I have a printing business)Or personal computer for that matter.

BTW you might be interested in a few bits of trivia about the real Spam (Courtesy of U. Iowa)

By World War II, Hormel had sold twenty thousand tons of Spam. Then, during the wartime meat rationing, Spam got popular...

If all the cans of Spam ever eaten were put end-to-end, they would circle the globe at least ten times.

In the U.S. alone, 3.8 cans of Spam "are consumed every second"(assuming SPAM is eaten 24 hours a day, 365.25 days a year).

Senator Robert Byrd of West Viginia eats a sandwich of SPAM and mayonnaise on white bread three times a week.

Hawaiians eat an average of four cans of SPAM per person per year, more than in any other place on Earth (Elsewhere in the Universe, who knows?).

Thanks Sufi. Best of luck to you too. :)

Marisa, I forgot about Akismet, because I'm not on Wordpress. It's great for Wordpress. Mollom is probably great for the rest of us. Thanks for the comment.

I use Akismet on my Wordpress blogs and it works a treat. It's extrmely rare for it to let spam comments through.Just occasionally it catches a genuine comment, but not often enough to be an issue.

I hope so - it always seems that we have to waste a lot of time dealing with the unscrupulous side of the internet. Chasing content thieves is bad enough, but spending a lot of time deleting comments is yet another burden.

Best of luck with it :)

Thanks, Sufi. The problem is it doesn't take a lot of them to drive you crazy. Spammers who know your site will revisit leaving literally dozens, sometimes hundreds of comments at a time. Math captchas don't work any more. Image captchas are hard to read. The good thing about Mollom is they store the identity of the spammer and will automatically block them as of then. At least, that is my hope.

I had to laugh at this one - your Hub came up on Hubtivity sandwiched between a concerted Spam attack on the forums!

Interesting Hub - my site has not been active for long enough to attract mass spamming, but I have bookmarked this Hub and will bear it in mind for the future.

      Thumbs up!
