The Science Behind The Handy Cooler.

It is another hot and humid night in the state of Georgia , and as I sit before a hot computer; under a hot lamp; I am amazingly cool due to my new Handy Cooler™/Personal Evaporative Cooling Fan .

Aptly dubbed "the world's first and only handheld swamp cooler", this ingenious device promises to keep you cool under the sun, in your home, in your office - anywhere you go.

According to the manufacturers, the "Handy Cooler™ takes evaporative cooling technology a step forward by engineering big cumbersome 'swamp coolers' into a lightweight mobile (handheld/freestanding) device."

* A Superior Handheld Personal Fan.

The Handy Cooler™ Personal Evaporative Cooling Fan uses a simple, yet effective evaporative cooling technology which utilizes a sponge-based water filter (which takes a simple soaking with water to make it effective).

In addition to cooling you down, this unique cooling system possess a humidifying effect which claims to alleviate allergies and soothe breathing. It's small, portable, and can be used as a hand held personal fan or a small stand alone desktop fan while at work, home, or school.

Unlike many misting handheld personal fans that can get a little messy, the Handy Cooler™ provides you with a handy mini water bottle and detailed instructions regarding how much water to use to prevent any leakage.

In addition, its cooling technology (which can cool the surrounding air up to 30 degrees Fahrenheit) does not require any misting or spraying to keep the individual cool and comfortable.

* Simple, Yet Effective.

What I really like about this personal cooling fan, is its simplicity. Once it arrives at your home, you simply:

  1. Take it out the box.
  2. Read the quick start instructions.
  3. Add four AA batteries.
  4. Remove the sponge.
  5. Carefully wash, rinse and soak the sponge with water.
  6. Carefully wring the sponge out and replace it in the unit.
  7. Evenly distribute 30 ml. of water from the handy water bottle onto the sponge - do not soak it.
  8. Turn the unit on and enjoy a cool breeze.

Don't let the simplicity of this hand held cooling fan fool you however. A lightweight at a mere 12 ounces - even with batteries installed - the Handy Cooler™ is extremely effective at cooling you down and keeping you comfortable.

* Aromatherapy At Your Fingertips.

Another great feature about the Handy Cooler™is the fact that you can use your own aromatherapy oils on the sponge for a nice, soothing, scented breeze. If you are having a hard day at work, what a great way to quickly destress by adding a few drops of Lavender oil to the sponge, allowing the scent to envelope you and your surroundings.

Simply soak the sponge with the water from the designated water bottle, then drip a few drops of your favorite essential oils on the surface of the sponge.

Always carefully wash the sponge by hand thoroughly after you do this, and never mix different scents on the same sponge.

* Why I Like The Handy Cooler™ Personal Cooling Fan.

Even after reading all the great customer reviews on , I was still a little skeptical of the effectiveness of this little gadget, but I decided to press on and give it a try. The product arrived on the day it was promised; arrived in excellent condition; and was a cinch to get running.

In addition to a useful adjustable hand strap, the Handy Cooler™ came equipped with a USB plug - that allows you to connect the fan to your computer - and a portable labeled water bottle to make it easy to keep the sponge wet even when you are on the go.

Once I got the fan up and running, I didn't feel the difference initially until I allowed the unit to run for several minutes. How pleasantly surprised was I at how cool the air actually got. That was indoors however, so I decided to test the Handy Cooler™ further.

To determine how well it would work outdoors, I took a short walk around my neighborhood and immediately noticed that once the surrounding temperature changed, the Handy Cooler™ adjusted its temperature to accommodate the change.

I needed to test out its portability as well and decided to take my Handy Cooler™ shopping with me. The adjustable wrist strap made it easy to keep secure around my wrist, and the mini water bottle fit nicely in my purse.

Note: "The sponge MUST BE WET for effective cooling to take place." Therefore, it is vital to carry the water bottle with you when traveling outside the home. To prevent over soaking the sponge and causing the unit to malfunction, always use the water bottle to wet the sponge. "How long the sponge stays wet varies according to use and ambient environment (approx. 1/2 hour to 3 hours)."

Another great benefit of the Handy Cooler™ is that it is good for alleviating allergies. Place the personal fan on a table top near your bed at night, or on a table top in your home or work office to alleviate allergies. (On a personal note, I noticed that when I have the fan running nearby on my computer desk, there is significantly less sneezing and far less stuffiness).

In order to get someone else's opinion, I decided to put the hand held fan to the ultimate test and let my mother try it out. She has been suffering from severe hot flashes for years now, and has been forced to wear a small personal fan around her neck for immediate relief when she is overcome by "the vapors."

The results? She absolutely loved it; purchased one for herself; and plans to purchase one for a friend who suffers from the same condition! The only downside that both she and myself found, is that it does not come equipped with a wall adapter.

All in all, I have to say that I am very pleased with this product. It has lived up to everything it claims to be and promises to do, and is an effective way to keep cool during the hot summer months.

So if you experience hot flashes, participate in a lot of outdoor activities, or are simply hot natured (much like myself), then the Handy Cooler™ Personal Evaporative Cooling Fan comes highly recommended.

If it works that well in Georgia, it should work great in my state of Arizona. Sounds like a winner. Thanks

i bought a baby stroller kit combo on the handy cooler website. It basically works like a baby stroller air conditioner. I cant believe there is such thing invented! I put it in my son's stroller when we go out under the summer heat and it cools his whole body down. I strongly recommend this product!

Kurt Kinderoos - In decibels I couldn't tell you. But it is a little quiter than a regular table top fan at it's highest setting. The USB cable is provided to allow you to plug it into your computer (as a power source) if you so choose.

How noisy is it - in decibels?

      What's the USB hub for?

With the AC switched off and the windows open on a hot day, I guess adding a few drops of citronella oil would help keep mosquitoes and other insects away.

Thanks for stopping by fastfreta. I tell you, I purchased mine just in time because it is hitting the low 100's here in Georgia but the humidity makes it feel as if it is in the high 100's. On top of that, our air is working too well, so this has been a life saver. Thanks for the compliment, the Digg, and the vote up.

Thank you so much guys for taking the time to stop by. I really appreciate your feedback.

Hello, hello - thank you for the compliment. I really think this is a good product. I am using it now as I write this :)

BkCreative - to me this is much more efficent then a giant fan. I will save my larger fans for times that I have extra company and they need some extra cooling. I love how you can connect it to your computer as you work. If you do decide to purchase this, I hope it works just as well for you as it has for myself and my mother.

      Thank you for the rating.

I forgot to mention, that you can add your favorite aromatherapy oils to the sponge to provide scent as well - which I will go back and mention in the hub.

This sounds more efficient that using a giant fan to blow air all over - it can even be used outdoors. Sometimes you just need a spritz of cool air.

I'm thinking about purchasing this product because last summer - at night - I had some tough mosquitoes that wouldn't let me sleep - the ceiling fan helped but maybe blowing them away with more direct air may help also. Whew!

Rated up and what a useful hub too!
