Tips and Tricks for Efficiently Using iPhone

Updated on November 18, 2013

Every day we use the iPhone for all kinds of tasks: calls, messages, mail, games, Twitter, social networks, reading, music and much more. But not everyone knows that the majority of these tasks can be tweaked to run faster. I have collected some useful tips and tricks, which makes your life easier while using your iPhone.

Tip # 1: Turn your iBooks in audiobooks

The majority of iPhone users don't know that any book downloaded from iBooks can easily be turned into an audio book. This is very useful when you don't have time to read the book, just change the settings and you can hear the audio in your car on the way to work. It is much more interesting and useful than listening any boring radio transmission. To enable the audio just go to settings and turn on the voice over. Of course, this is not a professional speaker voice, but the voice is quite acceptable.

Tip # 2: Close all unnecessary applications

Very often we face the problem of quick discharge of the battery. Most of the time the cause of this problem is having open many applications in the foreground at the same time. Especially if the application uses internet connection, it consumes battery twice faster than other application.

To close all unnecessary applications, click twice on the "Home" button, which will bring up the multitasking and show all opened applications. In iOS 7 you can swipe them one by one to close them. In the later versions press and hold the icon of the application you want to close and close them by clicking the red 'x' on top right corner of the icon.

Tip # 3: Fix Bluetooth device problem

There are times when you ignore some devices while using Bluetooth. Later when you search for Bluetooth connection you couldn't find those devices again. To fix this problem you just have to restart your iPhone and you can again see those ignored devices again in your list.

Tip # 4: Add PDF files to iBooks

Why to download extra applications to read PDF, if you already have iBook installed with your iOS? More often you receive an email with PDF attachment, to open the PDF in native app, just click on the icon and hold down for some time. You will see an option to open this file in iBooks. In addition, there is a special section in iBooks for such files, so that you can see what files are PDF.

Tip # 5: Use Siri as a calculator

Siri is able to not only find the information for you from the web, but also can serve you as a good alternative to a usual calculator. You can ask to perform various mathematical operations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication or Division, as well as to solve simple math problems, equations or functions.

Tip # 6: Fast removal of messages

Many iPhone users spend too much time on deleting unwanted messages. Although deleting an entire conversation can be done in just a couple of seconds. Just make a "swipe to the left and next to the chat button click delete button and erase the whole conversation from her phone.

Tip # 7: Synchronize your data in iCloud

You can sync all your data and files in iCloud and I strongly advise you to sync your phone to iCloud. To protect yourself from loss of important data, for example, in case of accidental deletion, damage, or theft of your device.

To create a backup in iCloud, open the "settings">>"iCloud". Create an account on iCloud. You will be able to choose what files you want to have backed up. Apple provides 5 GB of space for free, if you have more data than 5 GB can always purchase additional space in the cloud

Tip # 8: Improve the quality of connection on iphone

We all have found our self in a situation where the sound quality is not bearable if we there is a lot of noise from surrounding. In iPhone 5 and later models, Apple has added an additional microphone for noise cancellation. Theoretically it works constantly, and the sound quality is much better than its previous models, but not everyone knows that this effect can be enhanced further. To enable sound cancellation:

  1. Launch the Settings app from the Home screen of your iPhone.
  2. Now tap on General.
  3. Tap on Accessibility.
  4. Scroll down and under the Hearing section, enable the option for Phone Noise Cancellation.

Tip # 9: Save images in Safari and Mail

Any images that you find on the Web or that you see in your email can be saved in your iPhone memory. It is enough to touch the image and hold your finger on it a couple of seconds. Soon after that, a small window with buttons "Save" and "Cancel" will appear. Click save and you can find it in your photos folder.

Tip # 10: Fast rewind and Forward

If you want to rewind the song to a certain point (for example, to skip long entry or skip any embarrassing moment), you can do that by keeping pressing "next track". Keep pressing and your phone will skip the track. Similarly, if you press the "previous track", you can rewind the track for a few seconds ago.
