Top 10 Android Apps .

Updated on April 28, 2014

Here I have made a list of the top 10 android apps that everyone should have on their android device (in my opinion). I have tried to add some apps from every category except for games, because games are very subjective. Not all of the apps in this list can be downloaded from the Google PlayStore, so that's why I will start with an app that enables you to find all of these cool apps, although it's not ranked number 10 (way higher).

Aptoide search function
Aptoide search function

?. Aptoide

Available in PlayStore? No

Root required? No

Aptoide is an app that organizes sources for free apps. On it's own Aptoide is just a PlayStore without apps. But you can add sources yourself, which makes it an enormous free android market place. It has a function to search for an app. If that app is in none of your sources you can go to a site that has listed all available sources and find cool sources to add (it shows you which sources have the app you were looking for). Within Aptoide all apps are free. You can download apps from Google PlayStore that normally cost something (I am NOT encouraging anyone to do this, it is just a function Aptoide offers) and you can find extra apps that are not available in the PlayStore (Either because the apps where rejected by Google, or because the owners didn't want to submit their app). For this last function Aptoide is a very cool app. There are a lot of handy apps on there.

All apps that are on this list and can not be downloaded from the PlayStore, can be downloaded from Aptoide. They might not be in the standard sources, but you will find them with the 'search more' button.

Soundhound Is Recording

9. SoundHound

Available in PlayStore? Yes

Root required? No

Most likely everyone has already heard about this app, but I thought it would be unfair to not include this amazing app in this list. There are a lot of apps like SoundHound out there. I have just taken this one because I like it the most. But if you like Shazam or whatever better, please don't feel offended. I am talking about music recognition apps in general. With SoundHound you can identify a song that's playing. You will just have to hold out your phone and push a button. Within 20 seconds you will know what that lovely song you are listening to is called.

Note: you will need Internet connection for SoundHound to work

junk cleaner

8. Clean Master

Available in PlayStore? Yes

Root required? No

Clean Master is an app that is, as the name tells us, a master at cleaning. The main function that I use it for is the junk-file cleaner. Allot of apps make a lot of files that are never used again, but somehow are saved somewhere, just fill up your device with crap. Clean Master can scan your device for useless junk-files and delete those. The first time I used that function it cleared over 1 GB!

You can also clean up your RAM with this app. It will scan your device for useless things in your RAM. By deleting it it will speed up your device.

lag reduction

7. Seeder

Available on PlayStore? Yes

Root required? Yes

Seeder is an app that does some terribly complex root-stuff. The result is a reduction in lag. You can turn it on manually, or even select it to start up at boot. Seeder is a very good device to speed up your device a little bit if it's lagging.

6. Greenify

Available on PlayStore? Yes

Root required? Advised, without root access it may cause some troubles

A lot of apps you install, run things in the background that are completely unnecessary and only slow down your device and drain your battery. Greenify keeps an eye on those annoying apps. You can select a list of apps and let Greenify kill any process they try to start in the background. It's very easy to use and the result is really astonishing.

MX Player Logo

5. MX Player

Available on PlayStore? Yes

Root required? No

MX Player is an amazing video player. It has an amazing design, but that's not the reason it is on this list. MX Player can play near to ANY video file you manage to stuff onto your android device. This is very handy, because you won't have to deal with annoying video converters etc. Next to that you can also add subtitles to your movies. You just have to download the .srt file for the subtitles and save them to your device. You can add them to the movie within the player, without having to do any complex video editing things.

4. VideoMix

Available on PlayStore? No

Root required? No

VideoMix is an app that let's you watch movies online. I know you should support the movie industry by buying movies, but simply not everyone can afford that. That's why I put this app on the list. It makes streaming movies really easy and at least you do not support all those annoying adds that bring the people that upload movies money. Yep, that's right: no pop-up adds.

Psiphon whole device mode
Psiphon whole device mode

3. Psiphon

Available on PlayStore? Yes

Root required? Partly

Psiphon is an app that enables you to reach Internet sites that you normally wouldn't be able to reach. If a site is blocked on your Wi-Fi, enabling Psiphon will make you able to reach it. For an example; my Internet provider has blocked 'thepiratebay'. If I enable Psiphon I can simply go to the site, it's not blocked anymore! Even sites that are blocked because of censorship in a whole country can be reached through Psiphon. It's a great app for people who live in countries where there is no Press-freedom, but it's also cool if you want to watch a YouTube video at school, where they blocked it.

Note: enabling Psiphon for only the Psiphon browser is possible without root-acces. But to enable Psiphon for all apps on your whole device you might need a rooted android (depends on which phone version you're running).

TubeMate download options

2. TubeMate

Available on PlayStore? No

Root required? No

TubeMate is an app that enables you to download YouTube videos and music directly onto your android device. What else need to be said? It's amazing!

Root Explorer
Root Explorer

1. Root Explorer

Available on PlayStore? No

Root required? Partly

Root Explorer is an app that lets you explore the files on your device. If your device is not rooted, you will only have access to you SD card and possibly your external SD card. But, if you have rooted your phone, you will have access to your whole phone.

I know this app might not sounds as epic as expected to on number one of a top 10 android apps list. But just think of this app as the ultimate power over your device. With Root Explorer you can find every file on your device, you can delete every file you want and screw up your phone (if you would like to).

Root Explorer also comes with some handy functions,, like the possibility to unzip .zip and .rar files.

Which one should really be number one?

I found it very hard to rank them from 1 to 10. All of them are good on their own... So please, if you tested some of the apps yourself, wich one do you think should have been number 1?

See results

Missed anything?

These were the top 10 android apps I always download first when I get a new phone. I know that's not for everyone exactly the same, so please, if you have any suggestions, feel free to share them...

Wow, I have not heard the name of 5 app, I am sure these are useful apps but argue on the title Top 10 apps, there are many apps that are much popular than these one.

My advice will be to edit type to something more generic. like 10 Apps useful apps that less people know etc. Thanks for the post. I will try the one I don't know.
