Transcription jobs for beginners

Updated on February 1, 2016

What is a transcriptionist

Transcription is listening to audio files and putting them into words. These are good for people who are fast typers with little to no spelling or grammatical mistakes. The sites below are for beginner to intermediate transcribers. Note you will not get rich with these jobs but they can be a fast way to make some extra money in a pinch pr for the holidays. These jobs are not recommended for people who type slow, have poor English, or are not good with grammar as editing and doing the typing will often times take more of your time than what it is worth. Transcribing jobs are just some of the many work from home jobs available on the internet and if transcribing is not for you there are still hundreds of other ways to fulfill your dream of working from home!

This is one site that I have personally worked for. I personally did not make much money but the potential for earning with this site is relatively high. You transcribe small 6 minute clips at a time and you get paid per audio hour. So you aren’t paid per hour but per hour of audio that you transcribe, so your potential to earn really depends on how well of a transcriber you are. You have to take a test before your accepted to earn and once you pass the test you can transcribe audio files as they are available. Once you get a good reputation at doing that you can begin to edit raw transcription files and once you get a reputation with that you can even edit your own files. They pay out with paypal and I believe you can withdraw the money as long as you have the minimum payout rate.

This one I have not tried yet but I plan to later this month. From what I have heard the payout is pretty good you get 20$ per audio hour, which is pretty good and the quality of the recordings aren’t bad. You take an exam before you can start earning which is relatively simple as long as you have decent accuracy. The work for this site is updated relatively frequently so you will have work often as long as you check back often. You can do as many or as little files as you wish to and they pay out with paypal weekly.

This site does not require you to be a talented transcriber as they will give everyone who can pass their test a chance. This site does not always have work available but when they do it pays well. You can earn anywhere from 36$ to 200$ per audio file. This is a very high pay rate depending on how many jobs will be available. If you are a fast typer and can be on call then this is a good job for you and you can make decent money with this.

This company is more than happy to hire people with little to no experience as long as they are a fast typer and can have little to grammatical errors in their files. This is a good site to start on if you wish to begin a career as a transcriptionist. They require you to pass a test before you are able to begin making money for this site. You will need to download their software to begin working for this company. They do not release information on pay rates and how much someone will be capable of making but they do hire frequently.

This site will pay about 12$ per hour you work and there are more than just transcription jobs available here, you can also be a transcription editor and several other things. You get to pick your jobs and your hours that you can work here as long as you meet deadlines. There's often enough jobs to at least earn a part time income though usually more work than even that is available. This is a good work from home job that can make you pretty decent money.
