Troubleshooting Archos 101 Problems
Issues that can drag down the Archos 101 tablet include the device freezing, charging problems, power problems, touchscreen issues and more. Use troubleshooting to see if you can work through your problem on your own before going through the hassle of exchanging the device or contacting the manufacturer's support service.
Archos 101 Frozen
- Try holding down the Archos 101's "Power" button for at roughly 15 seconds to force the device to shut down. Forcing the device to shut down clears its memory cache and forces any running apps to close. If your device keeps freezing, continue to the next option.
- Uninstall any apps that were recently installed on the device. A recently-installed app may not have installed properly. After uninstalling the app or apps, restart your Archos 101 tablet and see if it's working properly. If it works properly for a few days, try reinstalling the app. If the device starts acting up again, contact the maker of the app, explain your problem and inquire about how soon you can expect some sort of resolution. If this isn't the cause of your problems, proceed to the next option.
- Try updating the firmware on your Archos 101 tablet by selecting "Menu," "Settings," "About Device" and then "Firmware Update." If a firmware update is available for your tablet, install it. Firmware updates can add new functionality to your Archos 101 tablet, improve existing functionality and further optimize the performance of your device. If your device still isn't working, proceed to the next bullet point.
- Try repairing your device before taking more drastic measures. You can do this by turning your device off. Hold down the "Volume Up" button and then press the Archos 101 tablet's "Power" button. The device boots up in Recovery Mode. Select the "Repair System" option. The tablet will check its internal software for problems and will automatically repair any detected problems. If your tablet is still acting up after repairing the system, repeat the process to arrive at the Recovery Mode screen and then select "Format System." Your Acrhos 101 will be restored to its original factory settings, which means that all of your personal files will be erased from the tablet. Before restoring your tablet to its original factory settings, back up any content on your device that you want to save.

Touchscreen Not Working
- Cases and screen covers can sometimes interfere with the ability of your Archos 101 tablet to recognize and react to your touch. Try removing any cases or screen covers you're using your device.
- Wipe the screen to remove any dirt and debris and also clean your hands to remove any dirt from them. Dirt or debris in either place can prevent the device from recognizing your touch. Also, ensure that neither your device or the touchscreen are wet, as water can also make it difficult for the tablet to properly detect your touch.
- Try recalibrating the Archos 101 tablet's touchscreen by opening the device's Settings menu and then selecting "Repair and Formatting." Within this screen you can adjust the device's touchscreen calibration.
- If you're still having problems with the device's touchscreen, try resetting the touchscreen calibration from the Recovery Mode screen, which can be accessed by following the instructions in the fourth bullet point in the Archos 101 Frozen section. Select "Force Touchscreen Calibration." Within this option you can have the device calibrate the touchscreen automatically.
Device Won't Turn On or Charge
- Your Archos 101 battery may be completely run down. If this is the case, the tablet won't turn on right away when you connect it to a charger. Leave the device connected to the charger and it will power itself on after the battery achieves a specific level of charge.
- If the Archos 101 tablet isn't charging, ensure that it's connected to an Archos-certified charger. Third-party chargers aren't guaranteed to work with your device, and may actually damage the tablet.
- Your cable may be damaged or have some sort of defect. Try using a different Archos-certified cable to see if your device begins charging.
- If your Archos 101 tablet is connected to a computer and not charging, make sure you're connecting the tablet to a powered USB port, such as the ports on the tower or the ports on the monitor of all-in-one computers. Also, disconnect non-required USB devices and then restart your computer. Connect your Archos 101 tablet to the computer to see if it starts charging. Having too many other USB devices connected doesn't leave any power to charge your device.
Battery Drains Quickly
A host of factors can cause the Archos 101 tablet to drain rapidly. To extend the battery life of your device, dim the screen brightness, reduce how often e-mail is pushed to your tablet, and disable the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth features if you're not going to be within range of a Wi-Fi network or a Bluetooth device. Additionally, try updating the firmware as outlined in the Archos 101 Frozen section, as firmware updates can optimize your device in such a way that the battery life of the device is increased.
