Tumblr combines social networking experience with an easy-to-use blogging platform

Tumblr may just be considered as a social network with blogging features: instead of having a profile you have just a complete website you can fully customize: there you can post text statuses, photos, videos and many other elements, just as you actually do on Facebook. Your stuff is seen by followers on their walls (just like it happens on Mark Zuckerberg's creature), but if they hit your name they come to your blog, which is fully customized and not based on Tumblr interface. Likes and shares are features you can find also on this platform, making it a social network at all effects! However Tumblr is a really variegated platform: there you can find various types of users and that is important to understand in order to choose what people you have to follow in order to see interesting posts for you. Here the most common types of users you can find on this social network will be described,so that you can better know Tumblr world.

Art Lovers

Many popular animated GIFs actually come from Tumblr: there are people there who love to make artistic and suggestive graphical elaborations in order to share them with the entire world. Here also existing GIFs are actually shared. If you love these types of content, Tumblr is the right place for you, as there are many users who just post a lot of animated GIFs of various types!

Quotes

Arts & quotes: Tumblr is a place in which teens free themselves and their creativity. The results is something wonderful for the user who faces with this world for the first time

Tumblr is also the place featuring interesting and suggestive quotes from authors like Charles Bukowski. Teens are usually the most influent sharers of these quotes, even if sometimes also new ones are created on the platform. It is just a place in which everyone feels free to share whatever they think, without fear of being judged. Tumblr is considered by many teens as something of alternative and special, a different world in which sharing special thoughts seems to be the most relevant activity: sometimes it is real poetry, even if made in amatorial way by teens. Considering Tumblr such a special and alternative place is something which makes it appreciated by teens and something beautiful, even if this leads also to negative consequences.

Attention Whore / Fake Autolesionists

Pictures and statuses about autolesionism are usual among some Tumblr users. The same categories of users are also present on social networks like Facebook, even if Tumblr seems to be their favourite platform

Here come the negative consequences of Tumblr's popularity as an alternative place: it is also full of teenagers who are in search of attention: maybe some of them are really sad, maybe they are completely joking even about their feelings... what is sure is that you cannot post photos of you cutting your leg with a razor blade just because your mother is not willing to buy you a new motorbike! Love problems, solitude, anorexia... many critical topics are threated by teens on Tumblr... sometimes there are real people who suffer and use this platform as a way of free themselves out... anyway people who clearly put photos of cuts are most probably attention whores, as real sad guys and girls are generally hard to share their feelings with other ones, especially with strangers and by posting so explicit images.

Pornographic Content

The difference between Tumblr and common social networks like Facebook is the policy regarding pornographic content: on Tumblr porn pictures are allowed (obviously pedopornographic content is forbidden) so that you can also make yourself a nudist model if you want. This mean Tumblr may also be suitable for all those people who love these types of content: the key is in following people with your same interest.

On Tumblr you can search for everything... really everything (talking about legal stuff obviously)

Tumblr is not only an alternative world for teens: it is also a blogging platform (with social network features). As because of its nature, Tumblr is still used also by people who run websites of various kinds, including professional web blogs. You can easily find them even if they are more willing to use the platform for its blogging features rather than for its social networking tools.
