Turn Back Time Instantly With This iPhone 3D Touch Trick

Updated on January 1, 2016

As a new year is upon us today, I know a lot of us like to reminisce about the year that's rolled past. Facebook usually has a turn back time deal for their photos, but if you're just flipping through photos on your iPhone, and you think...."man, I wish I could take a look at some pics from last year...", then you're in luck. Apple has updated iOS 9 and taken advantage of 3D Touch in the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus to give you that exact feature. Here's how it works:

  1. Go to the iPhone home screen with all the icons present, and use 3D Touch when pressing the "Photos" app (make sure to press down on the Photos icon.
  2. Next, you should see a pop up menu that contains a few options. Choose “One Year Ago”.
  3. The Photos app will launch automatically into an album of images from a year ago.

The catch to this trick is obviously having a new iPhone 6s or 6s Plus to take advantage of the 3D Touch Apple has available in these devices. If you don't have any photos from exactly a year ago, Photos is smart enough that it will broaden the scope out to photos taken roughly a year ago all on its own. If you're on a new phone with no photos, this shortcut won't work as you don't have any photos yet on the device.

If you don't have a new iPhone model, no need to worry. You can activate Siri and ask her to show you pics from a year ago. However, her search is more generalized, and you'll most likely get photos that are just generically older. This is something that hopefully Apple will address in future updates, but as of now, it's still a bit too generic for my taste.

Enjoy this tip to use with your latest iPhone, as it makes a great way to post some turn back time pics as we move into this exciting new year of 2016!!!
