UMI X2 vs Karbonn S1 Titanium - Full Comparison

Updated on March 27, 2013

It's been almost one month since I've written my last hub. This has been my longest break ever and I need to work on writing a many more quality hubs. This is the first one of the few hubs that I'm going to publish in the next two weeks. And I thought; why not start off with a bang? The Indian smartphone market is flooded with budget smartphones mainly from four manufacturers. They are Micromax, Karbonn, Spice and Lava. Now a new smartphone manufacturer from China has entered the market. They are known by the name UMI. And they have entered the market with a real beast. At least that's what I think from the specifications of this phone. It's called the UMI X2 and let us see how it matches up with the Karbonn S1 Titanium.

UMI X2 vs Karbonn S1 Titanium
UMI X2 vs Karbonn S1 Titanium

Looks:

The UMI X2 looks amazingly good. The 5-inch screen comes along with three touch sensitive capacitative buttons in the front and at the top there is the secondary camera and the earpiece. I would say that it looks better than the S1 Titanium. Behind the phone we have the primary camera and XII logo printed at the bottom center. The loudspeaker is also present here. The S1 Titanium sports a 4.5 inch screen with 4 capacitative touch buttons. Behind there is the Karbonn logo at the bottom center along with loudspeaker. THe primary camera is also present. Overall the UMI X2 looks sleeker and sexier than the Karbonn S1 Titanium.

Hardware:

Read this part of this article more than once, because you will have a tough time believing what the UMI X2 houses inside it as well as outside it. The phone is powered by the MediaTek MTK6589 quad-core processor clocked at 1.2 GHz. This phone also comes with a whopping 2 GB of RAM, which will take care of all your needs. You will never ever have the problem of lags or hangs. Added to that there is the PowerVR SGX544 GPU, this supports HD games. The UMI X2 makes it look like a Lancer Evo X in front of a Lamborghini Gallardo. I said this because the specifications of the UMI X2 are far more superior than the Karbonn S1. S1 has the same processor and GPU as the UMI X2 but it has only 1 GB of RAM. This means that the S1 will not be as efficient as the UMI X2.

Screen:

The UMI X2 steals the show here. It comes with a 5-inch screen. Now all of you might be thinking that the Micromax A116 has a 5-inch screen, so how different would this be? The thing with the UMI X2 is that it has a full HD IPS display with a resolution of 1920x1080 pixels. That means you will have the highest pixel density possible, around 441 pixels per inch. If this didn’t impress you enough, wait till the end of the article.

The S1 Titanium has a 4.5-inch display with a resolution of 960x540. This is nowhere near the quality as good compared to the UMI X2. Hopefully Karbonn will have a new trick up their sleeve to tackle the UMI X2. But as of now the UMI X2 is far, far away from the S1 Titanium.

Camera:

Please don’t even blink for one second, because you’re all in for a big surprise. And when I say “big”, I really mean it. The camera of the UMI X2 is out of the world. It sports a 13 megapixel camera at the rear side. This is something that the 30K phones in the Indian market don’t have. The closest that you can get is with the Xperia from Sony, which has a 12 megapixel camera. (I’m not considering the Nokia PureView, which has a 41 megapixel camera, because it is not a real smartphone). And the Xperia S costs more than double of the UMI X2. There is more to the sweetness and that is a 3 megapixel front facing camera. This will ensure really high quality video calls. I’m feeling really sorry for the S1 Titanium because it has only a 5 megapixel camera at the rear and a VGA camera at the front. UMI X2 is a running through the finish line and I think it is almost the end.

Battery:

I thought, at least in this category, that the S1 Titanium will win over the UMI X2. But I was wrong. The UMI X2 has a powerful 2500 mAh battery over the 1600 mAh battery of the S1 Titanium. I don’t think the S1 Titanium will last long because it has a quad core CPU and a qHD screen to power. The UMI X2 also has a quad core processor and a full HD screen but the manufacturers have put in a powerful battery to take care of it.

My Verdict:

I don’t think it is fair to write the ‘My Verdict’ section. Most of you might have already guessed the winner and it is clear like water that it is the UMI X2. The Full HD display, the quad-core CPU, the 13 megapixel camera at the rear and the 3 megapixel camera at the front make it a winner. As far as the S1 Titanium is concerned, I think it should probably leave the place silently. UMI is a Chinese manufacturer and I think it will take them some time to get set in the Indian market. But once they are set, I think they will give all the leading manufacturers a run for their money. Until the next comparison, this is me Rajeev signing off.
