Above the fold - Above the fold refers to banner advertisements which are displayed at the top of a web page. Generally speaking, "above the fold" means someone or something that goes above and beyond.In internet marketing terms it means that the internet advertisement is at the top of the page and will be the first thing that anybody visiting that webpage will see.

Acquisition Cost - Acquisition cost is the prcie that it will cost a business to acquire its newest customer,client or supplier.The acquisition cost is the average per new customer for a business.

Ad copy - The Ad copy is the final draft of an advertisement that is used for a campaign.The Ad copy is also the actual text which may be used in an advertisement.The better the ad copy, the better it usually works in converting into sales.

Ad rotation - Ad rotation means simply that, every time a new page appears, a new advert will replace the old one so that the advertisements are rotated evenly for every page view and you don't get the same advert every time you visit the same website.

Ad tracking - Ad tracking is the method used to gather data on the effectiveness of each advert in relation to the demographics, geographical area displayed in and the time of day it is displayed so thatthe advertiser can determine which combinations work effectively together.

Advertisers - Advertisers are the ones who buy the advertising space and placement space on other peoples websites.

Advertising Network - Internet businesses and website owners often meet in a central place in order to exchange jobs and product placement sites with each other.This is an advertising network of people and companies.

Adsense - Adsense is an advertisng system provided by Gogel whereby a website owner is paid a percentage of the advertising revenue generated from adverts on their website.

Adwords - Adwords is an advertising system operated by google for companies who wish to purchase advertising space on other peoples websites and the cost is paid for by a bidding system to determine who will receive the most prominent advert palcement in the search engine directories.

Affiliate - Affiliate is the term reffering to a middle man who acts as an agent in exchange for a commission percentage of the sales revenue generated form the products the affiliate endorses that result in a sale form the affiliate being the effective cause in the sale.

Affiliate Program - An affiliate program is a place where affiliates are able to obtain the products they wish to market as sales middle men in the sales system. Not all companies have affiliate programs, but a simple search for affiliate program and the type of product you wish to market, should generate sufficient numbers of results.

Aida system - The Aida system is and acronym standing for Attention, Interest, Desire and Action which are the basic fundamentals of effective selling.

Alexa - Alexa is a search engine like google and yahoo.Alexa offers a free toolbar which allows you to see traffic data which can become extremely useful to an affiliate marketer.

Analytics - Google has a tracking program called "Analytics" which is a free resource to anyone who wishes to track exactly where the viewer to their web page has originated from .It helps when you need to count visitors ro track which areas area stronger on your website or which ads work best.

Anchor Text - Anchor text is the main text in an advert or web page that you are focussing on to promote your site or webpage or ad.The Anchor text will be the strongest words to desribe your chosen product or niche. for example if your website has airways, you would focus on cheap flights as being your anchor text and use it wherever relevantly possible.

Articles - Articles are self explanatory as an article is basically the format that you will you to portray the knowledge that your are sharing.

ASP - ASP ia an abbreviation for Active Server Pages. ASP is a Microsoft program that allows you to integrate other formats of text into your webpages, like questionares, voting polls and forms that you may wish a visitor to complete.

Associate Program - An Associate Program is another name for an affiliate program and is used as it sounds a little more professional for corporations to use, but generally runs on the same format as an affiliate program.

Auctions - Auctions are used to sell goods online by means of a bidding or buying system.A reserve price is often set by the seller of the product which prevents the product from being sold under its assessed value for the seller.Online auctions have become very popular for disposing of unwanted items that may be of use for someone else. Ebay is the most popular to date.

Auto-Repsonder - An auto-responder is usually a program which is programmed in an email format to repond to a certain action performed by returning an email to the person performing the act as confirmation of this act.Some people use auto -responders as the easiest means to simplify their business, so that their clients are at still getting the attention without being restricted by business hours due to the 24/7 nature of the internet.

Avatar - When joining social sites an option is often given to use an avatar.Anavatar is basically the picture to accompany the name you have chosen and is usually an animation or photo.

B2B - B2B is an accepted international term for Business to Business.B2B refers only to the relationship between two businesses and not between the public sector or individuals.

Banner - A Banner is usually in a colorful style advert on a webpage with a cost showing or a click here label.

Banner exchange - These Banners are exchanged between website owners in order to increase their visitors and sometimes show their website address with a clickable banner directing the visitor straight through to their website.The Banner exchange is just that, the banners are exchanged reciprocally.

Basic Resell Rights - Basic Resell Rights are usually granted by product owners who allow you to sell their products. This form does not allow the buyer to then resell the product a second time, see also master resell rights.

Black Hat - Black Hat usually refers to the art of tricking visitors into thinking they are being directed to one place and sending them to another.This is frowned upon in internet circles and does not do any justice to the internet marketing world of business, except to generate negative publicity to yourself and your products.

Blind Link - A Blind Link is a link which directs a visitor to a destination, without disclosing the name of the website until they have arrived there.The bottom left corner of your browser will usually show you the destination if you hover your mouse cursor over a link without pressing it.

Blind Traffic - Blind traffic is the traffic that arrives at a website as a result of the blind links.

Blog - Ablog is a shortened name for a Web Log.Blogs originated as online diaries and are now transforming into great resources for information on a particular topic as more and more people start blogs as experts in their fields of business.

Bookmarking - Bookmarking is the act of marking a website in your web browser so that you may return to read it at a later date.

Branding - This is a standard marketing term and applies to creating an image or picture logo for your company or product that gives it an easy identifier for the public and your The M from McDonalds.

Branding Advert - This is an advert that only uses the logo of a company as the company and logo are so popular that text is not necessary in their marketing campaign.

Button - A button can take many shapes and forms and is usually found on a website with a request for an action to take palce in order to activate an auto-responder or other preprogrammed response ot the visitor.

Conversion Rate - This is the percentage of customers who perform the desired action to gice the intended result

Coupon Code -This the code inserted in to a spce when asked in order to recieve osme form of offered discount

Crawler -The crawler or spider or bot is a program which rapidly scans a site for content and records its relevance to the results a searcher is looking for.

CSS -Abbreviation for Cascading Style Sheets which are atype of page code for websites.

CTR -Abbreviation for CLick Thru Rate

CPC - Abbreviation for Cost per Click which is the cost an advertiser will pay each time someone clicks on their advert as opposed to a once off payment.

Dedicated Server -A dedicated server is mostly used to prevent downtime for websites due to malfunction through normal use.By having a dedicated computer used for memory as a server, there is less chance of mishap or failure.

Doorway -This a taster page used to encourage visitors to visit the page where the main information is shown.Often an icon on a home page referring to sub pages with more info about products.

Dropshipping -The drop shipper behave like an online warehouse.They will deal with the transaction part of your sale.All you need to do is get the client to the dropshipper and they conclude the sale and store the products for you.

Duplicate content -The term used to describe content which is very similar or considered unoriginal on a website

Payment threshold - This threshold must be reached by an affiliate in oder for the companies to authorise a cheque to be cut in your name.

Performance based advertising -Some advertising companies like to guarantee their work and will only demand payment if what they have promised has been achieved.

Peel back ads -An icon is ussually displayed in the top corner of a webpage asking the visitor to click on the peel back to reveal the page underneath showing an advert or product.An effective way to advertise.

Pop behind -A type of pop up advert that opens when a visitor opens a website and remains behind once the website has been left.

Popularity -Another word for ranking a website

Pop under ad -An advert that shows at the bottom of the page when reached.

Popup ads -  Adverts that show up on your screen out of nowhere and have to be closed or followed in order to return to your page screen.Not my favourite.

Portal -AN interactive web tool that allows users to log in and check account information and other features.

Positioning -The art of calculating a google adwords bid in order to obtain the position on the search engine results desired.Line of sight is usually centre page.

Pre-sell - A pre-sell is considered to be a positive review form a satisfied client whereby no money was spent on any marketing.

Press release - Similar to a news release whereby a product review or launch is released in the presses online in order to generate interest.

Pricing Strategy -The act of selecting the correct price for a product to enter the market in order to compete with oposition.

Private site -A website that is only viewable by members or paying customers

Private label rights - These rights may not be sold or nobody may copy the work of the writer or even distribute it.

Residual income - A repetitive income for an affiliate is always a good thing and because the internet hardly ever removes text or products placed in cyberspace, it may be found that someone may find and visit it in 5 years time and if it is still active it will pay an income. Thus if you keep up the hard work and arrive at a stage where a regular income is generated that is comfortable toi live off, then a residual income is eminent.

Return days -The amount of time it takes an affiliate to get paid once a sale has been made

Rich media -These are complex adverts that contain many different components like sound color action and movement etc.

Robot -A program that scans the content of a website for the search engines.

RON - Run Of Network -The option of placing adverts on multiple sites at once.

ROS - Run Of Site -The option of placing an advert in multiple locations on one website.

RSS Feed - This a live feed from a website informing followers of any recent updates as they happen.

Sig - Abbreviation for signature. Usually occurs on forum posts

Signature file -The text that you insert at the end of your emails in order for disclaimers or optout to be read.

Solo Advert -An advert that stand by itself.Sometimes just a logo eg. Nike or Coke etc.

Spamdex -An inventory of all the website that tend to send spam

Submission - sending your Url or website address to the search engines for inclusion
