Using the Video Recorder Camera on Your iPad

Updated on September 7, 2012

Please note that video recorder is not available in the original iPad, because the original it does not have any camera. The iPad 2 has two cameras (one on the front and one on the back). The version 2 have video recording capabilities and it can record video from either cameras.

Some people may not be aware that their iPad 2 can be used as a video camera. Because there is no video camera icon on the Home page. That is because the video recording feature is part of the "Camera" application.

However if you tap on Camera, you will see that there is a switch on the lower right where you can switch it to video camera or regular camera. Switch it to video camera mode by switching the switch to the right as shown below.

Your iPad 2 has two cameras: one on the front and one on the back. On the upper right there is a button where you can toggle to use the front or the back camera of your iPad. This enables you to either record yourself in the video, or record the scene in front of you.

Tap on the center button to start recording. When the video camera is recording, you'll see the red light blinking and the time elapsed will be shown in the upper right. You tap on the same button to stop the recording.

Once the recording has been stopped, the video is already saved in your Photos app. Contrary to what some might think, it is not in the Videos app.

After going into your Photo gallery, you will see your video marked with the video icon.

Tap on the video and you will be able to play it, email it, or delete it as shown below. When you email the video, the video will be in MOV format.

You can even send the video to YouTube.
