The Numerous Ways I Use My Smartphone

Mastering the smartphone post-sixties means being able to talk about amazing technology with maturity. Sounds exciting, isn't it?

Introduction

Just like fire and the wheel, the computer is one of the greatest inventions to have impacted human lives. From my college days, when computers were relatively unheard of, to the present day, life has changed drastically because of the computer. The clear proof is the omnipresent smartphone that has become justifiably indispensable to one and all.

It can be rightly said that the smartphone has become a necessary appendage to our persona. We are not functional without our phones. From children to senior citizens, not to speak of the normal adult working population, we see everyone using a smartphone. From the moment we wake up to the moment we go to sleep, our phone is in our hands, busy working for us. Just for fun, I decided to make a list of what all I do or can do with my smartphone.

Communication, Bookings, Banking, and more

My smartphone helps me connect with anyone I want to with a lot of ease. And there are more than one ways of doing it. I can give a call. I can message. I can chat or even make video calls for communicating. Off late, video conferencing is put to various ingenious uses, like family meetings across countries, gaming sessions among friends, or even praying together like we have been doing. A video showed one such birthday celebration where the birthday boy was alone in the room but friends joined the party through mobile phones. What was amusing in the video was that there were multiple phones on the table so that each friend got to wish individually yet simultaneously.

My smartphone can ease my travel bookings for me. No more standing in queues on the airline, railway or bus counters. No more dependence on travel agents. Even movie and theatre tickets are just a few clicks away.

Most of my banking transactions and bill payments are done on the go, thanks to my smartphone.

I can access formal education or assist my learning through my smartphone.

Watching TV and reading the newspaper on the go are timesavers for people like me who have to travel long hours on a daily basis.

Shopping, Photography, Games, and GPS

My phone enables me to shop without stepping out or visiting a store physically. It also helps the seller sell his wares without maintaining a physical store. The process of buying and selling happens without the buyer and seller meeting each other.

The smartphone is a good way to connect strangers if they know each other’s number. If you happen to fix up a meeting with a stranger, call his number when you reach the meeting place to identify him. I was a part of an interesting variant of this use. To my pleasant surprise, my elder sister’s six-year-old grandchild instantly warmed up to me when I showed her my photo with my elder sister on my phone. Till that time we were virtual strangers as we lived in different cities and were meeting for the first time.

Photography is a great feature of the smartphone. Instant gratification granted. Not only can we create beautiful memories with photos and videos, we can share them with our near and dear ones and store them too.

Storing personal information and other important files in the smartphone for safety and future reference has become so much easier. The phone connected to the printer gives hard copies too.

I can type and send official business letters instantaneously to many people in one go. Making presentations, manipulating data, keeping journals, doing calculations are some other important jobs the phone does for me.

Gaming has become a hugely profitable industry by itself and it allows me to spend quality time with my phone playing various games.

With the GPS app, one can easily find their way in unforeseen places too. Sending location is good for tracking people.

Knowledge, Creativity, and Money

My smartphone makes me a knowledge wizard in any field as I can access a world of knowledge through the Internet. Internet surfing has become easier with Alexa and Siri, as only speaking also yields results. In fact, Alexa and Siri double up as virtual assistants too.

My smartphone allows me to explore my creativity in so many fields, like singing, acting, movie-making and the list is endless. YouTube is a great app.

Health monitoring, I am told, is done using apps installed in the smartphone. In fact, my smartphone not only connects me with my doctor, it also gives access to medical reports and second opinions.

Smartphone has become a source of earning a sizable income these days for many people who know how to use it smartly.

While criminals use the smartphone to their advantage, police have very often caught criminals and tracked vital clues using the smartphone. Audio and video recordings serve as reliable proofs in the court.

Conclusion

With so many apps available, the list is practically endless. If you have some more interesting uses, please do share below.

Finally, I would like to share an interesting observation and would like to know your views on it.

When I see a sizable population busy on their smartphones while traveling in a bus or metro, I feel that incidents of casual eve-teasing have come down significantly, or so it seems.

Use of technology and the device being smart phone most of the day to day functions are available on this small but active device provided one is familiar with the functions and explore new things which can be done by using it on regular basis.one should also be safety concious about misuse and take preventive measures to safeguard through various options like password and locks available on the device.this works like a friend if used carefully.

Although smartphone is very common these days, but I remember the time when I bought my first phone. At that time, it was all about ringtones and now the technology has advanced to some many things that one cannot even imagine. Sometimes I feel I am connected with the world only through this device. At other times, I feel if I am not using my phone then how drastic change can come in my health.

Although it is a really useful gadget but there are many problems that we encounter while using this technology.

Thank you for sharing this valuable hub and through this I have revived many things related to smartphones.

First of all, congratulations mam for publishing your first-ever article, and that too on my favorite subject in technology - Smartphone. I feel so happy to know that you're also interested in writing about technology, just like me.

Secondly, I really enjoyed reading your article. Although the information you've shared may be common, the way you've presented it was really commendable mam. It was really informative and effective as well.

That last sentence you added in the conclusion is really a unique observation mam. I completely agree with you that with the usage of smartphones in public places, the incidents of eve-teasing seem to have decreased.

Thank you so much for writing such an impressive article. I look forward to your future articles mam.

Ms Poonam, now the smartphone is considered as a companion than an appendage. People are having such a bond with the facilities offered by the smartphone due to the power of artificial intelligence used by the software of social media. Children are digging deep and finding newer ways and means for their enjoyment. But, at middle age, if you are making use of it for your needs, you have keenly brought yourself to the frontline in learning how to make use of it. Enjoyed reading your article. So, wish to read more from you in the coming days.
