Web Hosting Bluehost Review

Updated on February 19, 2011

Bluehost Web Hosting

I was looking for a reliable and reputable web hosting company when I stumbled upon BlueHost. It was well-reviewed by existing customers and seems to be a good choice to host a web project by a client located in the US. Being here in Malaysia with a client based abroad, I would prefer to go with an international web hosting company that is established and provides good services.

Judging by the length of time that BlueHost has been in the industry, BlueHost does seem like a very good choice especially for my client who wants to target international visitors. BlueHost was established in 1996 by Matt Heaton who formerly managed another hosting company, If BlueHost has 20,000 new customers signing up each month with millions of domains currently under their belt, then Matt and his team have definitely got to be doing things right.

Web hosting made simple with BlueHost

Web hosting is made simple with BlueHost. There is only one plan, so there is fewer headaches from trying to compare and choose. BlueHost doesn’t have to come out with several plans because this plan is complete. For $6.95 per month, you’d get unlimited domain hosting, unlimited hosting space, unlimited file transfer and unlimited email accounts. On top of that, you will also received unlimited add-on domains, parked domains and sub-domains. The domain is also yours for free as long as you remain with BlueHost and the package comes with a free site builder with templates, which makes setting up your website much easier.

Why I like BlueHost?

I am particularly impressed by some of the features that BlueHost has:

  1. Free website scripts

Building websites is a breeze with these scripts. Among the scripts provided are social networking scripts, mailing lists, Coppermine image gallery, poll and survey software, Moodle, Tikiwiki, Drupal, Joomla, project management scripts, help centre scripts and support ticket scripts. There are almost everything that a website would need especially with regard to those related to customer relationship.
  2. Wide range of e-commerce features

These are very handy especially since most websites are set up with the intention of conducting business. There are safety features such as SSL secure server and password protected directories to ensure that transactions carried out are conducted securely. Various shopping carts are available too, namely Cube Cart, OS Commerce, Agora and Zen Cart.
  3. Multimedia features

No website is complete without the use of multimedia. People would not want to visit a site that is full of words; there needs to be elements of media to spark things up. BlueHost has video and audio streaming support as well as MIDI file and Real audio and video support.
  4. Impressive hardware

BlueHost uses Dual Quad processor servers that are backed up by the UPS Power Backup and even has backup power generated by a diesel generator. BlueHost also promises around-the-clock network monitoring and site backups. These are assuring that in the event that there is a power or connection failure, BlueHost is capable and well-prepared to handle the situation. BlueHost is reputed to have 99.99% up-time for the websites that they host.
  5. Easy-to-understand cPanel

BlueHost uses cPanel that is easy to use and understand, so much so that those who have no prior knowledge in the hosting control panel will also be able to find their way around it in a short period of time. It is available for free to those who want to try it out, which I say is a good effort by BlueHost to convince their potential customers. For those who want to start a blog, you can install WordPress in one click!
  6. Resource protection

This is my favourite feature – Bluehost’s own proprietary solution that provides protection from abusive users who cause website problems and slows down the running of your website. This feature is available at no cost to all customers and they don't even have to do anything about it for it is automated and seamless. This guarantees you safety from slowdowns that are caused by users who either intentionally or unintentionally consume too much CPU or memory.
  7. Systematic customer support system

For any problems that you may come across, you can either choose to give BlueHost a call at their toll-free line or chat live with them. I am also impressed by their ‘Contact us’ section where there are specific numbers to call for technical, sales or billing support. I am in favour of these as I believe that our queries would go to the personnel who knows best and minimises the waiting time. Clicking on the link to the help centre takes you to another page where you can get status updates, open a ticket, browse forums and the knowledgebase and access tutorials. Very helpful and customer-oriented, I would say.

Best of all is the given number to call for people who are located outside the US. This shows that they are dedicated to hosting sites from all parts of the world, making BlueHost surely a good choice for hosting my international clients’ sites with them.

I choose BlueHost

With that, I am keen to host my client’s web project with BlueHost and am quite sure that I would be making the right choice. After all, there is a money back guarantee if I am dissatisfied at any point of the service.

Yeh I've found them pretty good so far. But not the easiest for a newbie to navigate around.
