What Do Registry Cleaners Really Do And The Right Way To Use Them

Registry cleaners will delete entries in the registry that no longer have any program associated with it any more, but using a registry cleaner is not 100% reliable and sometimes you can remove the wrong thing and then your computer may not work right or may not even boot up any more.

You must be very careful at what you remove from the registry, the registry is what tells your computer what to do and what to load, so when removing anything from the registry you first must know what it is, never remove anything you don’t know what it is.

Many times I see people using a registry cleaner and not even check to see what it is they are removing, and then they wonder why their computer is not working right or not booting up any more. But to you must know your computer very well and know everything that is installed on your computer and know what will be safe to remove from the registry and what will not be safe to remove from the registry.

Many makers of these registry cleaners are sometimes calling them registry fixers, but really they do not fix anything, and can do more harm in the hands of someone who does not check on what they are removing from the registry .But they can be useful to someone who know how to use these registry cleaners right.

Many people just run it once and they think that it, but you need to run a scan on your registry twice or even three times till it finds no more new things, and also check each time at what you are going to remove from the registry. Then and only then have you removed all the dead links in your registry .

What to look for in a registry cleaner, First you want one that will back up what ever you remove from the registry and also one that is very easy to use and easy to view the entries it finds in the registry, light weight in size and easy on system resources .

Here are two that are really very good registry cleaners and  that I have use for years, but to remember if you don’t know what is safe to remove and not safe to remove than you should not use a registry cleaner on your computer .

The first one is CCleaner 3.06.1433 and it does a very mild scan on your computer, and will find some thing that may need removing, it is a good registry cleaner for someone who has never used a registry cleaner before, because it runs such a mild scan, but you still must check and see what you are about to remove. CCleaner will ask you if you want to make a back up for the registry entries your about to remove. CCleaner also has a junk file scan and will remove all junk files on your computer.

Download it here

The next registry cleaner is Eusing Free Registry Cleaner 2.6.6, it will do a much better job at scanning your registry and will find more registry entries and you will need to look all of them over and see which ones can be deleted safely and which can not delete safely . this registry cleaner also makes a back up of and entries you remove from the registry . You will be able to restore any changes made using the software by choosing Restore registry backup.

The Benefits Of Using A Registry Cleaner

         ·            Speeds Up Windows

         ·            Stops DLL Errors

         ·            Speeds Up Your Internet Connection

         ·            Makes Windows Load Faster

I think in the end the best thing for some people reading this is not to use a registry cleaner at all and let someone who knows what they are doing do it for then. But it is your computer and you know what is right and safe to install on your computer and what is not .

I'm wary of registry cleaners as I've found that some programs weren't working after it cleaned the registry. I'm glad I had a back up before I hit the clean up button. I don't use it much.

      Voted up and useful.

It has been my pleasure to visit here.

When I used the Restore point with SM, it had some bad results.

I couldn't boot up, even in diag mode.

I have to take the drive out and put it in another computer as a data drive, and manually replace the hive, and the SM hive wouldn't work, so I found one that I did using XP to get it to work.

It seems like the hackers can get more play out of the registry than Microsoft can.

      Thanks

Hi ib radmasters nice to see you, System Mechanics registry cleaner has many complaints from users that it did so much damage to their system that they could no longer boot up their computers, not a great piece of software to use. The registry in XP and 7 are structured differently because both systems are not the same but the registry in both system does the same job. Hope that help you ? Do you have any rating on System Mechanics registry cleaner?

Also, is the registry in Win XP the same as in Win 7. Are the mechanics of the registry the same?

      Thanks

Am always very cautious with any Software application calling itself "Registry cleaner", "Registry fixer", "Registry boaster" or any other sort of names, Why? Because several times i have lost crucial registry files on my laptop using such Software applications all in the name of cleaning registry.

I prefer to unload any unwanted file manually from the registry by issuing "regedit" command. Though i find this useful, i would not recommend it to anybody who is not sure of what to unload from the registry. You did well kashmir56 to explain the risk here because accessing computer registry and unloading incorrect file or files can cause irrecoverable error to ones computer. Voted up, useful and shared.

A good review. I have never had a problem from Ccleaner, although it always backs up ... just in case. Another all round cleaning solution that I like and recommend (as a free option) is Comodo System Cleaner. It cleans most aspects of the computer safely and has never caused me an issue in years of use.

      Shared, up and useful.

Hi kashmir56, great hub! I also agree with you, best not to delete anything from your computer unless you are absolutely certain of what it is. I've got some crazy files on my computer, mostly named with numbers. I have no idea what they do but I know I need them. Hmmm... I have some bits like that in my loft too, hahaha!!!xxx

This was such a valuable article for me. I confess I am pretty clueless when it comes to registry cleaners. I sometimes am encouraged to download one whilst downloading a certain program. I shall definitely be wary in future and it seems to me that I should leave well alone!! Voting up and pressing your buttons. Thank you.
