What Does the Fox Say? The Fox by Ylvis

Updated on August 16, 2014

We interrupt your normally scheduled online programming to bring to you a special feature this cyber moment. Yes it has arrived the potential mega viral sensation that may even in fact, topple over Gangnam Style. This time it comes in the form of an animal calling, yup I typed it right, its a silly 'Fox' themed out prank, turned amazement and overnight success, titled "What does the Fox Say?". It might be the most outrageous successful song ever known to date, we shall see folks.

Amazingly this song in a single month has crawled to the top of the music charts as well, topping Robin Thicke’s "Blurred Lines", to sit at #6 on the Billboard Charts for the Hot 100 singles chart. (According to an article in the New York Times, most recent website post yesterday October 11, 2013)

What does a fox actually say?

So what in the world does a Fox really say? (Answer in the video supplied below). Well there's actually a high trending Youtube video for that as well, and so many more that due to spawn like it. All due to this new viral crazed trend setter that inspired the making of the slick video down below. The original Fox monster online has grossed since early September, a whopping 112 million+ views already, as of the publishing of this article and still climbing rapidly.

So, who was responsible for this sudden viral attack on Youtube fans, and creation of such a loud uproar in animal form. Noise is now even coming out of media mogul places in the United states, such as NBC’s “Late Night With Jimmy Fallon,” about the sensation brewing up amazing stats. Go figure!

Performance is everything

This amazing performance of that out of control success of a video, was created by none other than, two funny brothers from Norway. One is named Vegard and the other Bård. These dudes are Norwegian comedians, and now somehow hit the virtual jackpot with this new scorching hot Youtube music video. Who would of ever known by them making a prank style joke in video format, that it would rise to the occasion and shock the entire globe, just as PSY's Gangnam Style once done there just a year ago this time.

One thing about the video, is how its cynical theatrics gets showcased; consisting of superb vocals, weird yet appealing song lyrics and awesome instrumentals. Also empowered by some of the wackiest overly calculated childish semantics, recorded in the most professional manner of high definition audio/visual quality and editing format.

Compare and contrast it to the same sort of stylish fast paced tempo and swing dancing style/screen transition changes as its predecessor #1 competition Gangnam Style, and you'll instantly see that its very similar technically speaking in many ways.

Yup, this thing just got started there on the Tube, and so there's no telling how far its bound to go. One things for certain is that, these two characters from Norway are now overnight super stars on a international level. They shall more then likely be touring much more around the globe, as they already traveled to London and the United States. They may concert in the U.S. mostly, to perform this weird as ever, yet mega smash virtual hit! for maximum publicity, as the sponsors cut deal and continue pouring in.

History of the Ylvis brothers

According to wikipedia Vegard and Bårdare both come from a cool city in Norway with a small size Population of only 270,500 people. These dudes started out there and were able to become professionals in many differing fields there. Wikipedia also stated that their talents and professional careers range in the categories of; humorist concerts, TV shows, radio shows and making music videos.

It's not coincidence that they were bound to be discovered by the entire globe of an audience online, because they been plugging away there for as long as Youtube has been around pretty much. They were discovered by a TV network known as TVNorge around 2008, which such a television network joined Youtube back in 2006. It was a TV game show at the time back then, and Ylvis got its star power going from there.

However, ironically after doing some much needed research. I recently discovered myself that they actually didn't begin plugging away on their channel hardcore, until about 1 year ago. Maybe they deleted a great deal of their content, not sure what's up with that, but whatever they done there. They most definitely made the right choice, as for this new videos sudden viral success, which isn't an easy feat at all for a single video.

As a active creator there on the Tube myself, its easy to get lost in the crazy meat and sauce of things there sort to speak. So giving these cool guys praise for their earnest efforts of creating their unique user content, was my pleasure to do as a writer. I hope more folks get discovered like they just have, because there's no better place like the Google owned platform for video/film creators. Nothing else on the planet can boost a person into mega-star power overnight.

Thoughts on Youtube Success

It's a rarity that anything being uploaded to Youtube will ever get the chance to go viral for the active and inactive user. Now when something like this occurs on a large scale such as 100 million or more views in a months time. The world tends to respond to such a massively rapid fire success there in a royal way by virtually bowing down to the video creators, since it is so very hard to appeal to the masses worldwide.

This is what also makes the place online a fun and unlimited potential for true to life success such as this story being written about. It's highly recommended for more people worldwide to look into learning more about how this puppy works.

This was a fun hub! My students introduced me to this funny video and it is so catchy. I liked your explanation of how things "catch on" and how rare it is, indeed. Sometimes we really don't know why something becomes popular, it just does. I guess everything lines up just at the right time. Fascinating stuff!

I love Ylvis. Although What Does the Fox Say is their biggest hit, I like some of their other videos more like My Cabin, Someone Like Me and their talking elevator series. Thumbs up for writing about these funny dudes:)

Thanks Big Bill, for the rave review budd, I'll be gracefully tracking this bad boy and hope the wave helps take my channel to the next level. We shall see bro, who knows how far it all can go today.

I need to make a real parody though with my family and friends to leap frog into the millions of views categories. Something I learned from Gangnam Style parodies. I hope they tag along :)

I just saw this video for the first time last week and I was blown away. Outrageous fun and it just goes to show that fame and fortune can hit anyone at any time if they are willing to put it out there and go for it. I'm predicting that you are headed to stardom, Mike; just keep on doing what you are doing and it will come.

      Have a great weekend buddy.
