What Is It With Facebook?

Updated on December 14, 2011

Okay why do we do it?

We join facebook, and then have to search for our friends, even if there neighbours you get some kind of buzz because you have added some one. I mean getting excited over meeting the postman and adding him on face book isn`t my idea of fun, but why do we do it?

Then suddenly we start finding old friends from school, sometimes even adding the ones that were not friends then, and now suddenly want to be friends. Come on you know your not gonna speak to them but why add them? Is there some voice in your head saying " I need more friends?" If so speak to some one or go to a club etc and make some.....

Even worse than that guess what else we do, you know when your doing your profile? some people actually put their dogs and cats and other pets on their pages as friends and relatives. I mean i am not being funny but if your single and you join facebook say to meet some one you hardly want them to see that your closest relative is poodle... (Do you know what I mean- bad move and all that...... Thats why he did not phone you after he added you......

I find myself having hysterics at people on facebook, who write things on their statuses like Just made a cup of coffee but what kind of biscuits should I have, and then underneath about half a dozen people have hit the like button and left comments...... How sad!!!! As if you would hold a conversation in the canteen about what sort of biscuit would compliment your cuppa, you know.

But the worst part is we all do it!!!!

Then we put photographs on and make albums, then people tag us in our own photos as well as others...Some good....Some not so good.....Some you dont want to know about.... Yet we dont delete them do we? No we keep them there embarrassing ourselves even more!!!!

Its like were out to get ourselves or something, and even worse than that is some people can not function with out checking face book, it has become an actual addiction....

So why do we do it? I guess we will never know the answer to that one will we.........Probably because we will be on facebook after reading this......

Anyways have fun playing farmville and cityville........ :-)

Very interesting hub, and i like the humor you incorporated into this. I think facebook can turn into an addiction if you allow it to be, but I personally don't understand it. Heck if it wasn't for hubpages, then i wouldn't waste my time with facebook, but to each their own is what i say. anyway, great job with this hub. :)

I sincerely appreciate your comments about facebook.

While there are certainly valuable advantages to membership in this social face-off, I have found it to be entirely too invasive for my comfort.

This, particularly when I have been browsing the web, searching for information about a particular subject and had received repeated encouragement to use my facebook account as an entry technique to reach the home site of a source mentioned as offering additional detail regarding the issue being researched.

That prompted me to also attempt to eliminate my account after noticing that it had obviously been targeting me for advertising that was reflective of some casual sites I had visited out of curiosity rather than based on any intense interest in the particular subjects offered. Such casual sites only revealing their true objective after investigating such, as a result of its title or reference suggesting a somewhat different objective.

While I have done everything I can think of to complete erase my name and data from the facebook site, and while there has been some improvement, I am still receiving such messages along with the very common suggestion that many of the websites we all visit daily frequently suggest that you friend them, on facebook.

I find this one interesting. I too have been using Facebook for years, and I absolutely hate how everyone lives from one status update to the next! It's crazy. Nice hub. Voted up

Hi, I am using Facebook for over 3 years now and playing farmville for over 2 years now. Facebook, works on my favor. I am currenlty living away from my homeland leaving behind my family and the easiest way for us to keep in touch is through facebook, of course there is skype, msn and yahoo . I use facebook also to contact friends and family . I set my privacy setting to maximum, hence , I am safe. I like farmville too, I met virtual farm neighbors LOL :)

I agree Face book is a bad head when you want to delete stuff would be a lot easier to move house and change your identity lol :-) Thanks for the comments it took me ages to fathom out how to use facebook and even then they keep changing the rules and such.... Take care d.william :)

Hi again. And the first to comment. WoW. I am totally face book illiterate. I decided to open an account, but it took days to figure it out. I find it quite complicated and they will only let me access my account if i go through internet explorer, which i hate. So, i decided to delete my face book account, and you know what? There is no way to delete that account. If there is, it is well hidden from the illiterates like me. Not a good thing.
