What The Text Envelope With Red Circle Means on Samsung Reality Phone

Updated on December 5, 2011

Introduction - What is That Txt Envelope With The Line Through Circle?

I recently sent a text on my Samsung Reality cell phone and noticed something unusual. The envelope icon next to my text message did not have the usual (sent) arrow pointing out of it. Normally, if a message was sent successfully, you'll see an arrow pointing out of the upper right corner of your text envelope icon.

In this case, I was seeing something I had not yet seen before.....

The Envelope Looked Different

The envelope I was seeing on my Samsung Reality cell phone had a red circle with a red line through it in the upper right corner. I knew this red circle with line through it could not be good. Forget the envelope for a minute and just think about the circle with the line through it. You've seen this image on signs when you are in public places. A sign with a circle with a line through it and it basically means "don't go there" Put any image inside a circle with a line running through it and it is basically prohibiting you from doing whatever it is that image represents.

I too some liberty and drew a not -so-talented artistic rendition of the icon I was seeing. I posted it above. Sorry for the lack of artistic talent! I had no way of taking a photo of the icon on my phone but this should give you a good idea of the icon I'm seeing on my wireless phone screen.

What Does The Envelope With Red Circle With Slash Through it Mean?

It actually took me a little while to figure it out. My Samsung Reality cell phone owner's manual I got when I bought the phone does not contain a comprehensive list of icon images and their definitions. That said, I was eventually able to find out what the red circle on the envelope means.

Literally it means, " Message Sending Failed " In short, your cell phone failed to transmit your text message.

Why are We Seeing the " Message Sending Failed " icon?

Well, honestly, delivery failure messages are not my area of expertise. My best guess is that my Reality cell phone was unable to send the text message due to a connection issue. Probably just a brief snafu in the Verizon universe at the moment I was trying to transmit my text message. All my other messages went through fine that day.

What You Should Do if You Get the Message Sending Failed Icon

If you have sent text messages to this person successfully before and they haven't blocked you or moved to an exotic location, it might just be a matter of waiting a while then trying again.

If you find yourself in an area where you have had problems sending messages in the past, step outside or move to another location and then send the text again.

I hope that helps! Thanks for stopping by.

Thanks for stopping by. Yeah, getting that red, Ghostbusters (for those of us who remember that film) stop sign on the envelope can be unnerving, especially if you have an important message or doubt the person wants to talk to you. Thanks again!

Good to know! I thought my friend had blocked me. I figured we would just never speak again...... In the past i would get a message saying that it failed, but I have never seen this icon.
