What are the best Bookshelf Speakers for Music

Updated on April 5, 2015

The bookshelf speakers are one of the many types of speakers for indoor music playing. They started to widespread particularly during the 90's becoming very popular. At this period the necessity for smaller and high performance versions of speakers was very high. So, audio technology providers came up with the idea of the bookshelf speaker. It was a much smaller version of the previous floor standing models so it could easily be put inside a bookshelf.

As time passed, this kind of speakers became more and more requested. The performance and design were the two main points of them. They are particularly loud and sometimes you will find them in a store with the name of loudspeakers. But, do not worry because they can be easily noticed wherever you go. In this article I have found out and reviewed the best products that you might find in the nowadays market.

Since, they do not differ a lot in sound performance and size I have tried to be more concentrated on the design. The primary thing about a bookshelf speaker is the outer look which is mainly made of wood. Then of course it comes the sound quality which I have to say that it is really outstanding. They are able to deliver very clear and deep sound performance for more than 24 hours non stop without over heating. Before you try to purchase any of these speakers please read the details and product specifications. This way you will find more easily the one that adapts to your type of receiver, room size and type of music.

Pioneer SP-BS22 LR bookshelf loudspeakers

The Pioneer Sp BS22 is the first product that I have included in my review. The main thing that differentiates a bookshelf speaker is its look. And I think that Pioneer has made a very good looking product with a decent price of $89.99. They carry the Andrew Jones design signature, making them very fashionable. And the black wooden color makes them fit in perfectly in every environment.

As the title implies these speakers are pretty loud and can easily fill any room. If they are placed correctly the pioneers can play some loud bass based music. These speakers are not only famous of their loud and deep bass. Because you can play any classical, ambient, rock music as well delivering an amazing sound stage very wide and deep. They remind me almost of the old suspension type speakers that had a very deep bass. Also, the sound is very crispy and clear from every angle of the room. It has a wide range of frequency coverage thanks to its 1 inch high efficiency soft dome tweeter.

With a total weight of 9.1 pounds and 8.4" x 7.1" x 12.6" they do not utilize too much space. Most of the customers that have purchased the Pioneer loud speakers are amazed of the high sound performance elegant look and of course the low price. Some claim of playing loud music even for 30 hours in a row. In my opinion they are a real money saver.

Polk Audio RTI A3 bookshelf speakers

The Polk Audio RTI A3 Cherry bookshelf speakers are one of a kind. They can release a high performance audio for any kind of music play. When you connect these $299 speakers to the receiver you will be convinced that you do not need any other kind of home theater or music playing system whatsoever. The Polk has manufactured recently the new RTI A series featuring several new upgrades. The first impression that I got from the Polk is the design.

They come in pair and have a particularly nice real smooth looking wood color. They can be ordered online or you can go to their store and try them out first. Polk RTI A3 speakers are equipped with all MDF construction and have a resonance free enclosure. The driver is something special on its own. With a 6.5 inch mineral made dynamic balance cone driver it delivers very high performance audio. The driver is pre configured on the mid/woofer with a frequency response curve from 40 Hz to 27 kHz. Also, the dome tweeter is one inch and it has a very wide range of bass coming from them, approximately 50Hz to 3dB. And this happens when you push it to its limit. The music feels fantastic with the Polk speakers but not only.

Considering that they are pretty small in size they are able to fill any room with any kind of sound. They can be easily installed with any kind of receiver and play any kind of music genre like rock, pop, electronic, opera, classical etc. They will not over heat after long hours of playing thanks to their low viscosity ferro fluid cooling system. I must say that the performance is way out of the ordinary and the price too.

Klipsch RB-51 bookshelf loudspeakers

The Klipsch RB bookshelf speakers represent a very high quality and efficient brand of audio technology manufacturers. This version of Klipsch is currently on a sale and, if you want to purchase it online it costs around $249. Which I think it is an affordable price. But, lets get to the basis of these nice pair of speakers. Firstly, I have to say that the design and overall appearance are outstanding. They definitely will not be unnoticed when curious eyes pass by.

Visually speaking the RB's loudspeakers are quite good looking and do not need a lot of interpretation. The body is made of special black colored wooden material that can be a nice addition to any kind of furniture color. Also, the golden color one inch titanium horn - loaded tweeter kind of relaxes the ambient and gives to the room a warm look. The RB-51 2 is not only valuable for it appearance but even for its portability and easy of usage. Thanks to its keyhole bracket can be mounted on the walls or any other kind of surface. It is ultra small and very lightweight so it can be moved around. In fact it has a total weight of 20.9 pounds and size of 10.7 x 6.5 x 11.4 inches.

The high definition sound and performance specifications are amazing. These small but powerful sound devices can easily a 300 square foot room without any additional subwoofer. This means that the bass is quite deep and loud with a particularly efficient low end response. The sound is crisp and clear with a wide frequency range of 50Hz - 24kHz and a total of 3dB power. I like to say that they are the perfect choice for any kind of home media device. I suggest you to try gaming or watching an action movie with a loud volume to notice their real value.

The Klipsch Bookshelf Speakers Review

Sound Appeal Premium

Premium bookshelf speakers made by sound appeal are the cheapest speakers so far. These 6.5 inch driver speakers are currently on sale and cost only $69.99. The price is quite affordable and anyone can purchase a nice pair of high quality bookshelf speakers. What I like about the Premium speakers is the fact that they are built to endure and perform for very long periods of time. In fact the craftsmanship and materials are made of high quality and super resistant that can last for at least ten years.

Even thought the warranty of the VF line is for only three years for is more than enough. The priority of a bookshelf speaker in general is the design and portability. The Premium from sound appeal has not spared these qualities on this product. The first thing that it is noticed is the fine wood grain black colored cabinet with stylish rounded edges. The curved molded grille on the front offers a totally innovative and stylish look. This is a very graceful and good looking kind of speaker and considered the low price it is a bargain.

The 1 inch tweeter dome is custom designed from pure silk. This way it delivers very clear and crisp highs that are easy to listen. The tones that are produced on both on and off axis offer very gentle and bright sound quality. Also, the bass is very deep and too loud which is certainly the worst thing that you would want. In other words it makes your heart pound when you hear and feel the music. The sound can easily fill pretty much any room with a medium surface. Also, the manufacturers suggest to connect them to a 100W class T mini amplifier. Apparently they pair well with this device.
