Why Society is Focused On Being Unique: We Are All Rich, And Can Therefore Fund Our Unique Inner Selves

Society is a grand word, and essentially means the collection of home settlers in a region of the globe. Take the UK society, a nation that has had its fair share of political, cultural and society changes over the centuries, and to this very day the country still functions ever so similar to the United States of America. When the UK was completely powerful was during the British Empire reign of dominance power across the world, and the “red coats” were invested in the US colonies, but since the turn of power with the independence of the United States of America, Britain has been slowly forming a strong political and cultural relationship with the USA. This has been the case since America and Britain came together to fight the German Nazi regime in the 1940s, and ever since the glorious victory America and Britain has remained close allies.

Throughout history there has been the development of mass societies building that could turn small tribes and villages into large civilisations built through human colonies after the turn of the industrial revolution. All the worker ants would pot off to work in the factories, whilst the mother ants would look after the children at home and knit new outfits for their babies, and the average family would earn just enough money to break-even on all of their utilities, rent, clothing the family, and putting bread on the table every evening. Great minds back during the industrial revolution were rich, pompous, bigots who couldn’t see past their own noses, and through their genius theories they learned in the end that the key to success in factories was to have as minimal workers as possible by bringing in machines that could do the work of 100 workers in a day.

Since the technological revolution, the mass people in society have realised that there is better opportunities elsewhere away from the manufacturing industry altogether. The technological giants like Microsoft and Apple emerged in the 80s and have since created a channel of communication between the real world and the digital world. And, so began the digital age, where thanks to the help of the world wide web, tech coders, and the great entrepreneur minds behind global corporations like Google and Facebook, the digital web has been expanding into the nether. The internet is best understood by the minds of society in the same way that we picture the universe, in that it is beautifully magnificent, and a place where we would like to put our minds and stay for as long as possible to simply gaze at its impeccable design. The internet is of course the best friend that a person could ask for; as they are loyal, reliable, knowledgable, always offering something interesting, and they are a heck of a lot of fun to interact with.

The digital age has made mankind richer, as there have been new forms of business engagement with customers that could not have been possible just two decades ago. The internet began as a place to get information, but quickly turned into a market street where a person could pick up their newspaper (head over to The Guardian, or The Times website), get some bits for the weekly shop (head over to Tesco, or Sainsbury’s website for home delivery), and get that new audio sound-bar from PC World that you have been meaning to pick up. This, and an endless supply of other options for every occasion and necessary/unnecessary fulfilment can be found on the world wide web, and because of this business small, medium and large are all richer in the marketing for their businesses over the internet.

Take Amazon: The biggest online retailer that has buried a whole stream line of small, medium and large retailers, in store and online, through their appealing website design and easy functioning to get everything that you could possibly need for everyday living in one convenient place. Originally, when Amazon first set-up their online retailer business they sold physical copies of books, and this gave them a format to work from. Later, Amazon would emerge as the largest interdepartmental online retailer, selling physical books, DVD’s, Blu-Ray discs, other forms of entertainment products, all kinds of electrical goods and appliances, gardening tools, homeware, and everything on the buyers wish-list. This brought Amazon billions in yearly profits, and enabled their company to move even further into the digital market and released the Amazon Kindle readers that enabled Kindle users to access the Kindle store to buy books digitally and store them on their Kindle reader device. All the products a person could ever dream of in one simple place on the web, and the even cater the Amazon super-fans, in that they have dug deep into their roots by launching a digital e-book store, which is one of the biggest and most used on the internet.

Now we know the internet is booming with opportunities: for buyers, suppliers, and sellers - the internet is merely an endless galaxy of great online stores, social media hubs, product review stops, thought consuming blogs, and news bulletins - it is time to bring the super-fast train back in to the station. The internet is also filled with endless thoughtless trash, and the bad content, dodgy websites, scam services, illegitimate product sellers, and unreliable sources that the online space can become rather negative if digging is to be done by an internet user. To keep the internet a safe and secure place, large corporations like Google are there to make sure that everything safe and reliable pops up on the first page of searches on their very popular Google search engine.

Why are people unique around technology? Well, when people go outside into the cold they start to realise something - they are not at all unique when they stare into the eyes and backs of the heads of strangers. There is nothing about yourself that strikes as being unique, even in the slightest. The easiest response for many is to stare into the deep abyss and think imaginatively about there surroundings, and some great life inspiration can come from doing this. But, once technology is tuned into the life of the outside walker, thinker and imaginative dweller - these people are renewed as someone unique again, and everything that makes them who they are is back in front of their very own eyes. This is even more remarkable in its simplicity and accessibility today as smartphones have become more perfected than ever before. The 4G connection on your iPhone 8 whilst out on about is marvellous, and there need not be any situations where your unique power as a human being is ripped from your inner soul by the onslaught of human lifeforms around you. Residing on the iPhone 8 screen is your message board from close friends and relatives, and these people make you unique, as you know what makes these people tick, and in turn they know what makes you unique.

What other areas to technology makes people unique? And, sticking to the iPhone 8 screen scenario whilst out and about on the move; When someone looks down at their smartphone they are keeping in touch with what makes them unique, and this will likely be their social media accounts; such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, Tumblr, and Reddit. And, these platforms all hold your sacred personal account that caters directly to you as a person - and once again your close friends and relatives are all there - and these people know what makes you unique. People today want instant gratification for being unique, and the technological advances of today make this a minutely obsession, as (especially) the young people of today will post something on Facebook or Twitter and they will repeatedly go back over the next 30 minute period to see if anyone has liked or commented. A simple ‘agree’ click can sound something like, “oh my god, I am unique, and people accept me for the person that I am today”, and so comes the comment and ‘send’ click that cab sound something like, “a comment?… I am clearly the man (or, the woman equivalent of ‘the man’)”.

To make things clear, technology makes a person no less/or no more unique than if there was not technology there, as technology is merely a tool that enables the expressive tones of a person declaring that they are unique, and upon the loud rubble of broken messages, people are holding on and clinging to Facebook and Twitter followers, as this reminds these people that what makes them unique is something that people should be loyal to, and therefore follow their presence on the internet because their thoughts and opinions are the right ones.

So, the BIGGER question… Why is society battling to be unique?

Society is on a constant string of control, as when the larger mass people flock to a certain place; like the Starbucks coffee shop to try their new frappucino, or the Waterstones store at the corner of first street to get the latest Harry Potter book, or Google to do keyword searches for everything that needs to be found on the web - then everyone will gravitate there because it is something that everyone is talking about, and when the leaders of social groups start gabbing on about something the followers will follow. But, because everyone else has bought the latest edition of the Harry Potter series, this makes you a person who is as far from being unique as is possible.

The unique person is the guy who goes to the Costa coffee house to get their lunchtime Latte instead of Starbucks, as everyone is talking about the Starbucks coffees, and there is seemingly no one talking about the Costa coffees - even though both brands of barista coffee makers practically make the same tasting product. Society is dying to be unique, because those who are more fortunate will see all of the options, and not just the ones that are being handed out like a freebie stand at a convention. So, here, the idea of being unique requires a person to earn more money that it costs for them to just survive, as a person must first make enough money to pay the mortgage on their newly refurbished home, enough money to pay for the kids private education and boarding school fees, and enough money to pay for any other regular bills that they may have before their disposable income can be gaged. The disposable income, and its vast or empty quantity will judge how unique of a life that you will have, as a vast disposable income individual will pay for only the best meals at fine dining restaurants, and they will be fed on only the best meats and veg dishes that a person could have. They will make calculated decisions on the insurers that they use, and they will pick everything for their home in the handmade isle where they can get everything personalised to the finest of details and incremental values to suit them.

Whereas, someone with an empty disposable income amount of money left after each month will be forced to follow the masses, and this will cause these people to have to buy the same TV brand that they bought 5 years previous, the same brand of soap detergent that they bought a decade ago, and they will even use the same brand of computer that they had several years previous. It is these people that fall into mass consumerism, and this prevents these people from tapping into their unique qualities, as the intellectual world is moving ahead fast, and these people will be left behind long after the days when there most trusty brands from product manufacturers have tired their branding and marketing resources into such a poor state of disrepair that any purchase from these brands in the present day would be a blemish to the household.

Apple is a brand that promotes itself as unique. Not only that, but Apple consumers say that they “feel unique” in owning and regularly using their Apple products, and this is the case across all of their product offerings. The iPhone is the Apple flagship product, and outsells the iMac in sales figures and raw numbers, and has kept the Apple brand a household name for regular conversations around the dinner table thanks to the brands contractual agreements with 4G providers. This allows people to own a premium smartphone without having to pay the £600 price tag upfront, but instead opt into a pay monthly contract with your mobile phone network provider - such as EE - to pay the contract off over a 12-24 month period, that in total should come to around £900 in total. This, for todays standard, is affordable and should cost a minimum of £30 a month depending on the iPhone generation, GB’s of storage, and minutes/texts/data usage limitations.

With Apple’s brands ability to make their consumers feel unique when using their products it has enabled a wider reach of similarities in feelings. As, Google represents the world wide web in 2017, as people will think of Google before they think of the world wide web. Google has swiftly become the internets sole representative, and it is not unique for a person to use Bing instead of Google because Google is a unique brand to start, and it is those who are still using MSN as their search engine that will receive harsh judgement from the wider internet community as being a part of the traditional mass consumerism movement. The move to be unique is slow in happening, but thanks to the internet people are more openly being unique, as the internet is accessible practically anywhere now that 4G is giving internet access just about anywhere in the western world, and almost every modern store has wi-fi accessibility.
